First ever extraction, any advice for next time?

Hi everyone!
This is my first post on this site, or any forum actually so please bare with me if I'm doing it wrong.

Recently an alkaloid extraction was done using A/B method on an Acacia on hope of attaining DMT. Much research was done prior to this and it all seemed a lot easier on paper.
Buying ingredients and equipment for this tek proved somewhat difficult. For example, settling for a caustic drain cleaner (with 98% Sodium Hydroxide) as no local source of pickling lime or food safe lye was available.
Then locating and identifying an acacia was more difficult then originally thought. Strangely they are seen very often but when one is looking for this particular species it may be quite difficult.
The steps for were followed to exact measures of a proven tek and precautions were taken to obtain the safest and best possible outcome. The steps were also a lot easier on paper.
The grounding of the bark was found to be the most enduring part of this exercise; for the blender used was unable to take a full load of bark at peoples recommended 1/2 inch pieces.
Instead the bark was broken into small pieces by hand and then using a cleaned set of pliers, the bark was crushed and broken into yet smaller pieces before put into the blender and turned to powder.
20 grams of bark was lost to the air from tiny air holes in the blenders lid.
The rest of the procedure was completed with little trouble.
Upon placing the mix into the freezer at the end of the night, the extractors felt a wave of comfort and relief. The waking of the next morning felt like a childhood memory of Christmas morning for the extractors. But instead of running over to a Christmas tree it was running to a few trays of zippo lighter fluid in the freezer.
Finding a smaller amount than anticipated was only slightly discouraging as it was a first attempt and was still a learning experience.
After weighing and smoking the substance the users found themselves to be quite relaxed and feeling spaced. Only minor visuals were recorded and is presumed that the alkaloids did not contain high traces, if any DMT. Also slightly disappointing, yet not to be seen as a bad thing. Failing is a very important part of learning.

In conclusion a few things have been learned from this and will be trialled for further extractions:
1) Acacia tree's or other plant's should be grown to increase species population and to allow easier access and ID
2) Online sources of ingredients can be a much cheaper and easier way to obtain rather than local sources
3) Obtain some colourmetric reagents to identify the alkaloid does contain DMT prior to use
4) Longer crystallization process (using a warmer to cooler method on your freezers thermostat) and re-crystallization won't go astray

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated and taken into serious thought.

Thanks! :)

Hello and welcome:)

I would suggest you to do a partial evaporation on your naphta before putting it in the freezer.Evaporate about 40 to 50% of naphta then cover and put in the freezer. This will saturate the naphta and make it easy to freeze precip.

I don't know where you live, but I'm in the US, and I had to order my sodium hydroxide online with a prepaid card, got 2 lbs of food grade lye, and really, it's more than I'll use in years. I wouldn't really want to use 98% sodium hydroxide, 2% is alot when dealing with possibly dangerous chemicals in the mix.

I don't know what tek you used, I do a/b extractions personally, and you just have to be thorough while boiling, and pulling with naptha. I've heard of people doing 10 pulls and still getting more, I usually do 5 pulls on mine.

Also, you may not have basified the mixture enough, that was my problem on my first extraction, and I ended up with weak brown goop. I never got a ph meter, I just add twice the reccomended amount of lye, and it works out great.

Hope this helped. good luck with future extractions. :)

Thanks alone!
They won't use the 98 % stuff anymore, instead the extractor will order pickling lime or something online.
The MSDS didn't even say what the other 2 % might be.
The extractor basically used Q21Q21's A/B extraction with a few adjustments from reading other people's teks.
Hmm more lye may be the answer hey. I guess using ph paper and testing the mix might not be a bad idea either? The ph paper is relatively cheap right?

Hi Gowpen.
An Acacia estrophiolata was identified, couldn't find much about this species on the internet. I wish I had some fancy equipment to identify the alkaloids in the final product to help with this species research.
Also this tek was done far from my own home and the extractors home. So the where abouts of this tree will not give any clue to the where abouts of myself or the extractor
