First Spice (semi-sustainable) Extraction, OK if Solvent remains Transparent?

I have prepared and used Ayahuasca analogs a few times, but recently I have come across a little quantity of DMT and i am starting to explore these new realms of consciousness.
However, as I would like to be autonomous and indipendent when it comes to having food for my soul, I tried to start a simple extaction (inspired by the sticky thread in the Eco-friendly Extractions zone)...

I would like to know what you, interconnected palnetary brothers, think bout this whole tek, i appreciate any thought!

I had some(bout 10 g) solid, boiled down, MHRB + vinegar tea. It looked like a deep red-brown glassy crystally resin.
I crusched it and mixed it with an equal amount of Sodium(Bi)Carbonate, then I added a littlebit of water to make a paste and basify the DMT acetate that should have been in there. I gently dried it to make it a reddish powder.

Here it comes the solvent, I chose Diethyl-Ether because it has a pretty low boiling point (36°C) and I feel pretty safe using it in well ventilated spaces.
So, I added the red powder in a jar and put 180ml ether in, stirred.
To my surprise the ether remained white and trasparent and it didnt get any of the reddiness from the MHRB/carbonate powder on the bottom.

Is this transparency OK? What do you think bout it??
I suspected and hoped the ether to turn yellow from the freebase DMT, as I have only seen yellowish spice, but it did not.

I will try to attach a picture so you can see better and then tell me...


Is it ok to proceed to the separation and evaporation of the (hopefully) spice rich ether?

I've only used naphtha as a solvent when dealing with MHRB but my solvent always looks clear after I do my pulls and always gives very good yields. Sometimes it starts to take on a yellowish tint once most of the volume has evaporated down but not always. I would evaporate it away and see what you've got.

And as far as I know pure freebase DMT is white. The yellowish color is caused by oxidized DMT and other alkaloids/impurities that get pulled with the DMT

If you used bicarbonate there won't be very much freebase for the ether to pick up at all. You should at least use sodium carbonate - washing soda. Do you get the difference between this and sodium bicarbonate - baking soda?

Do an evap test on a small amount of the ether to see if it's picked anything up.

As far as evaporating ether goes - ummm... that looks like an awful lot of ether to evaporate. That would seem terribly wasteful. Are you trying to blow yourself up?? And you do know of ether's tendency to form explosive peroxides, don't you?

Why are you messing around with an untested technique involving an extremely flammable solvent, anyhow? Please be careful. You don't want to end up in the newspaper (and/or the morgue) for the wrong reasons.

Hi Downward I appreciate your concern, I said (Bi)Carbonate because I syntesized my own carbonate by calcination from sodium Bicarbonate so that would be no problem.
I know the risks of diethylether, I studied applied Chemistry for 5 years and I know how to move in the lab, I will evaporate it in open space!!!:thumb_up:
Be sure I will post my results!

Extraction Complete!!!!!

I managed to separate and evaporate the 150ml of ether, it resulted in about 100/200mg of really liquid/oily yellow goo with a spicish smell..

I was hoping to find crystals or at least a more solid resin, easier to handle, but Oil is what I got!
I have a pic of it in the dish.

I was a little sad for the liquidness and specially the minute amount of extract I managed to produce but, Hey! This was my first DMT extraction so whatever....
Also I didn't know the amount and preservation state of the MHRB I originally brewed and boiled down(few years ago) so I have no idea of how much the yield should have been, said that I can say I am moderately satisfied of the results.

As soon as I realized the consistency of the extract I decided to take a little chamomile and make some changa (actually enhanced leaf) out of it.

Here is a photo of the spice infused chamomile. :roll:

I tried a bioassay of the changa(again enhanced leaf), smoking a little amount of it in a weed pipe getting some threshold DMT-like effects: sharpness of perception and what I could call the Zen Silence, it could have been placebo and I bet placebo effect took some part in the exprerience.
Not really satisfied.

I will procede to bioassay a bigger amount of the Changa(enhanched leaf) and will report the effects...

It's not changa without harmala alkaloids (betacarbolines). What you have might be call 'enhanced herb'.
