First time extraction help

Migrated topic.
Listen did you Saran Wrap ( plastic wrap ) it air and water tight also are you sure you did it correctly and thirdly are you sure you got MHRB and fourthly did you let the base soup cool long enough as you have seemed to pull a lot of plant oils with a smudge of base soup in the naphtha ??

i wrapped it and did it correctly, I do have mhrb for sure, and where i probably went wrong was letting the base soup cool down. I thought it didnt really need to be cooled down because of all the heat baths in the tek. Next time I will try to let it cool off. Is it ok to use this product?

Did you scrape it up or is it still tacky in the dish ??

after i strained the naphtha and tried drying it it melted so i put it back in the freezer with saran wrap. it hardened and then i scraped it up and it became a really stick thick consistency with a light brown colour. i tried checking if it would melt again at room temperature and it melts sort of like ice cream.

I then tried dissolving it back into clean naphtha which didnt work too well then put it in the freezer over to freeze precip again.

It went back to the same consistency as mentioned earlier.

If I ruined it I wont be too upset because I only used 50g mimosa and have some more at home.

What do you think?

Pulled some base mix with the solent by the look of things.

One method of a mini a/b (acid base) cleanup

1. Warm 50ml of vinegar
2. Add extract to vinegar
3. Stir until dissolved it should go cloudy off white or even clear again.
4. Leave to fully react for half hour
5. Some sediment may be present but sometimes not depending on how impure extract is. So you can either decant away or filter if so, if not then leave it.
6. add base slowly until pH 12, if sodium carb then make a saturated solution before adding it, add slowly
7. add warm solvent and shake well, let separate then mix again 3 or 4 times to saturate solvent. Jar can be kept in a warm water bath if wanted. Shouldnt be any emulsion problems in such a clean solution.
8. pull solvent and separate from jar , leave the last small layer in so no base is pulled.
To get last bit put the whole solution into a tall thin glass. Can also add more solvent to try one last pull if you want.

Number of pulls and amount of solvent used depends on amount of extract. 3 pulls of 30ml warmed naptha should easily pull a gram from the solution. The first may even pull it especially if its toluene, limo or xylene. Probably best to do at least 2.

Mini A/B

Thanks for all the replies. I'm currently not at home for several days and didn't have time to clean the last product. I wrapped it air tight and put it in the freezer so I hope that's OK.

Also I want to start another extraction with another 50g mimosa.

Can you guys give me pointers of what to do, avoid, or be extra careful with for my next try?
