would grain alcohol be just as good as 100% ethyl alcohol or 100% IPA? As far as I know, "grain alcohol" sold in stores is approx 95% ethanol, 5% water
You're just trying to infuse herbs with spice? Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) would be the cheapest by far, assuming spice is soluble in it. You aren't going to be able to purchase 100% ethyl or isopropyl, and I don't see how the extra 5% water would hurt anything.
