Freeze precipitation - time in the freezer and other questions

Hi all! A friend has recently been in the middle of his first MHRB extraction and has officially put his naphtha in the freezer. It’s only been 6 hours but there is already loads of fluffy white precipitate all over the glass baking tray he used. He wanted me to pass along a couple questions-

Pretty much all the extraction technics he studied say to leave it in the freezer for 2 or 3 DAYS before pouring it off and collecting the residue. Is this necessary? He can’t believe how successful his first extraction looks to be turning out and would be shocked if more time in the freezer would result in more precipitate.

Also, all that fluffy white stuff is DMT, right? There’s so much of it. There’s no chance there are other things in there? Lye does not get picked up in the naphtha, right? He hasn’t pulled it out and weighed it yet. What percentage of a yield can he expect his MHRB to contain?

Of possible note - sulphuric acid was used for the acid cook. When he poured the basifying solution into it, a milky white reaction occurred which quickly desolved back into the black sludge.

hi,

in my experience, it depends a lot on the freezer and how you set it, i have 2 freezers, in one of them it takes 1.5 days to precipitate. in another freezer i have it only takes about 18 hours.

i would however recommend to give it at least 12 hours.

regarding picking up lye. to my knowledge it is not possible for naphta do pick up lye. contamination could happen when you pick up the naphta layer. so if you have been careful nothing should have happend.
if you are worried, you can wash your naphta next time.

I usualy wait one night (8-10h) at -18C. Afterward, if i evap naphtha to check if there is any leftover in it, it's really tiny.
Of course if quantities of solvant are bigger it takes more time due to inertia.

FOAF done severals extractions and he saw that best results are achieved when the tray was left UNDISTURBED for 12+ hours
undisturbed means no look at it as even a little look to it bring the temperature of the environnement up a couple degrees and he don't know if this means something but when poured off the naphta some whitish stuff is flowing away with naphta
so you chose!

Ah I see. Yeah my friend had no idea it would turn out so well. He wanted to give himself a decent margin of error. He followed the DMT handbook from this site, in which 2 kilos was used. So he figured 1 was a decent starting point. Clearly he overshot it. I will pass along the info, and thanks.

What tek was even used here? I’ve not seen a tek scaled to a kilo of mhrb. Pretty excessive

He followed the DMT handbook from this site, in which 2 kilos was used.

Perhaps we need to review the DMT handbook on account of this.

It was originally developed from the LexTek method by Viracocha

Acacia obtusifolia bark was used

while MHRB can be far more potent.
