grinding bark - using paper shredder

Migrated topic.

there may be a better forum for this, feel free to move it.

I hate grinding bark and now that the common already powdered mhrb is hard to find, I suspect people are going to have to relearn how to grind. Ive never been happy with any technique that I have tried and ive burned up quite a few food processors and coffee grinders.

So I found a heavy duty 20 page paper shredder used at a flea market for $150. Staples brand usually $250. I cut out the guard that was between the slot for the CD/DVD and the 20 sheep of paper slot. This of course makes it way dangerous to work around if you arent careful.

It sucks dried bark in as fast as you please. Picture are of one pass and then two. You can keep feeding it in to get it smaller.

did you have to worry about cleaning the blades of the shredder? considering it's being used for bark, i wouldn't want any residual cutting oil or grease from the shredding components getting mixed into the bark

it looks clean and isn't greasy. grease or oil shouldn't pull into the A or the B anyways. its not the kind of thing I personally worry about, but a good point for those who might. you do need to supposedly oil these things and I was going to use peanut oil.

peanut oil should work great, it's what the restaurant i work at uses in its fryers, can tolerate higher temperatures without degrading really well
