The difference in your crystals is due to contamination by fat, tannins and, possibly, a small amount of vegetable matter. What I would recommend adding is one step of filtration.

After redissolving your freebase harmaloids in vinegar, filter the resultant solution before adding NaCl to manske. It's at this stage that any fats/tannins are removed.
