Hello everybody!

Migrated topic.

Hi everybody! I'm happy to join this community. It seems like the best out there, with topics that are actually insightful (I'm not trying to suck dicks here, I really mean it).

As for me, I'm fondly interested in chemistry (organic in particular) and I'm currently studying it formally, so I hope that I will be able to provide my help with chemistry. Other things that I find interesting are math, botanics, biology, and physics. Related to this community, I've read PiHKAL, The doors of perception, and some parts of Mycelium Running.

I've had trips on cacti, and probably LSD (although I couldn't perform Marquis).
Time to learn more about spice and hopefully ride it in the near future!

A pleasure to meet you. Adivino.

Thank you! I'd like you to meet my grandchild. He was born just a few days ago.

Welcome! I'm new too. :) You're lucky to have experience with cacti, finding mescaline has been a goal of mine for ages! Which species is that that you've just posted a picture of? (Sorry if it's obvious, it isn't to me, I'm just interested.)

It's a T. pachanoi. I'm not sure about its potency because it hasn't been bioassayed yet.

Edit:
Cryptotryptamine: I really hope that you will experience cacti in your life. It's a real bliss. If you have any question just go ahead and ask me, I'll be glad to help you try cacti.

welcome Adivino, to this fine place filled with exceptional people. look forward to hearing more from you. may have some cacti questions for you in the near future!

I'd like to show you some more pics. These are some of my T. pachanoi grown from seeds. They are under a 30W CFL 18hours/day and constant 30°C. They are almost 2 months old. I don't have pics of the germination :(.

Adivino - how long do they take to mature to the point where you can harvest? I have 2 Peruvian torches tath are over 2 years old, and they are still under 6 inches tall...

Beautiful little guys BTW. Luminescent!

Cheers,

jbark: I really can't answer that. It greatly depends on the growing conditions. I have a 60cm (~25in) pachanoi that's still growing some good centimeters per month and the temperature here is already ~17°C (fall). The potency varies widely from cactus to cactus, but a widespread rule is that a cutting the length of your arm equals one dose.

Are your T. peruvianus receiving enough sun, heat, and water? They should grow quickly if so.

What I read was that you don't want them to grow TOO quickly or to be TOO babied, because the production of mescaline is a stress response. So the less predictable the environment (waterings, temp, humidity) the greater the mescaline content. Just wondering what the happy balance was.

I don't want to wait another five years!

Unless somebody actually writes a real scientific paper, we will be guessing and making suppositions about: the identification of T. pachanoi and T. peruvianus (is it predominant cultivar or not? what does Trout say?...), if the potency grows or diminishes when stressed (some people say it's better to stress the plant, others say that if you give them love they reciprocate), if the alkaloids are destroyed by heat or not, if the alkaloids are present in salt form (and if so, which ion).

I think that it's not that important to be able to identify exactly what species you have (even if you could), because we are not growing them for the sake of botanics, are we? I'm not that interested in knowing where it comes from... after all what's important is the potency. I think that it's best to grow the cacti normally and just try them. That's the only way you can be sure. I know it's somewhat a waste of time, but unless we can get standardized plants and seeds as if it was tomato or corn, it's guessing with new plants.
