Hello everyone!

Migrated topic.

I came across this place by accident actually, and I am really intrigued!

I am huge on self growth and self-understanding. I read a ton of books including Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow rich (which is fantastic so far). I am an avid 420 supporter because it allows me to think expansively in ways like no other, and because I chose not to consume alcohol.

Steve Jobs is someone I really look up to, I ended up reading his bio by Walter Isaacson which was also a great read. And as many of you may or may not know, Jobs was also no stranger to smoking marijuana. Jobs said that it helped him relax and made him more creative.

I found out some more info about Steve a little over a year ago, a direct quote from him:
"Throughout that period of time I used the LSD approximately ten to fifteen times," Jobs said. "I would ingest the LSD on a sugar cube or in a hard form of gelatin. I would usually take the LSD when I was by myself. I have no words to explain the effect the LSD had on me, although, I can say it was a positive life changing experience for me and I am glad I went through that experience.

And during the interview he said:
Definitely taking LSD was one of the most important things in my life and not the most important. But right up there.

For such a powerful man, whom is responsible for raising a company from the depths of bankruptcy to the pinnacle it has achieved today, to attest LSD so highly. This entertained an idea I otherwise would have never considered.

After lurking around, this form has many topics - like 'DMT'. As a newbie here, I was hoping someone could explain to me what exactly it is, how it differs from LSD, and if it is something that can complete my goal of further understanding myself and growing.

Thank you!

As somebody coming up looking for reflections of yourself in works like Hill's and Jobs', you may find that this all is just a ripple on the surface of what DMT brings to the table. In fact, you may find DMT quite shattering to these ideas. Not to say that this angle isn't fairly accurate in its own right, but it just leaves so much bout humanity out of the picture. DMT does not leave anything out of the picture. Nonetheless, DMT can be a fantastic tool for exploring the self, as can any psychedelic when used properly.

DMT is a naturally occurring indole alkaloid, and exists in many plants as well as the human body (whether it serves a function in the body or is merely a by-product is still unclear). It is commonly considered the most powerful psychedelic substance, as it is capable of propelling the user's conscious perspective into another reality within moments of smoking. It produces vivid multisensory hallucinations, changes in perception of the body, alteration of states of consciousness, manifestation of "entity" contact, and myriads of other strange and awesome effects. The experience often presents itself to the senses while leaving the user fairly lucid, allowing for a sort of dialogue with the experience, though at higher doses it can also weaken or destroy the sense of self which alters the experience significantly.

In contrast, LSD seems to creep up from the background and alters the mind and perception of the user significantly, but with much less emphasis on vivid hallucination (though there is hallucination. LSD often presents itself inside the user, where DMT presents itself outside (of course, these are loose geralizations) I find LSD to be a good friend and tool, whereas I find DMT to be more of a teacher, healer and window to truth and growth.

LSD, when taken with an open, balanced and collected mind, is a fantastic tool for exploring the self, getting in touch with the senses and healing weaknesses of the mind, as well as opening one up to useful perceptions that he or she may previously have taken for granted or simply never noticed. I've also seen many more people experience problems with LSD than DMT, as it is important to keep your wits about you not take the experience seriously until one is down and sober.

DMT, on the other hand, is a bit more enigmatic. While it is more powerful, fast acting and takes very little time, it can be so fast and intense that it can be challenging to pay attention to what's going on, or even remember it afterward. DMT will almost always bring forth an experience that will show the user deeper, more fundamental aspects of themselves and their perceived reality... But these messages are so darn enigmatic that most users will never be able to make heads or tales of them. Proper integration of a DMT experience can and should take months or years, lifetimes even.

The only person who can determine whether or not to use these chemicals, or which chemical to use, is you. Likewise, nobody can tell you how they will effect you personally. What can be said for certain is that these chemicals deliver powerful experiences that can and will push or shatter the limits of reality as you know it. This can be a life altering experience, and should be faced with courage and a good heart.

In a nutshell, you're saying DMT is more effective, safer, and expansive than LSD. Yet the messages can be more encrypted compared to LSD, am I correct?

What is the average duration with a DMT experience?

That's fairly accurate. DMT "delivers the goods" more presently and effectively than LSD, but the speed, intensity and profound strangeness of the experience can be challenging. DMT tends to be more unpredictable as well, and always leaves more questions than answers. This can be great when looking for the right question, but requires much work to find an answer. A moderate smoked dose usually lasts around ten minutes, but can vary from 5 minutes to an hour in uncommon cases. Orally with an MAOI, it usually lasts 2-6 hours. Keep in mind that this is time as measured by a clock: Time dilation is a huge part of the experience, and it can feel like minutes, days or lifetimes.

LSD tends to be more mercurial and harder to put a finger on, but it's a bit easier to get a handle on what is going on once one has hit the peak. It enhances the mind, rather than leaving it dumbfounded at what it is experiencing. DMT can be smoked at the peak of the LSD experience to great effect, though it can be a very very intense or altering experience.

All this being said, It's not as if these drugs actually relay messages... What they do is allow you to experience consciousness and reality in new ways and with new input. The "message" is in how these far-out experiences fit into reality as we perceive it, and what they bring to the table. It is always a good bit of work to integrate these experiences, and takes a fair bit of smarts, a bit of faith, a level head and a commitment to truth.

And, as always, the experience of the thing itself goes far beyond what can be described or imagined. Preconceptions are misconception.
