As somebody coming up looking for reflections of yourself in works like Hill's and Jobs', you may find that this all is just a ripple on the surface of what DMT brings to the table. In fact, you may find DMT quite shattering to these ideas. Not to say that this angle isn't fairly accurate in its own right, but it just leaves so much bout humanity out of the picture. DMT does not leave anything out of the picture. Nonetheless, DMT can be a fantastic tool for exploring the self, as can any psychedelic when used properly.
DMT is a naturally occurring indole alkaloid, and exists in many plants as well as the human body (whether it serves a function in the body or is merely a by-product is still unclear). It is commonly considered the most powerful psychedelic substance, as it is capable of propelling the user's conscious perspective into another reality within moments of smoking. It produces vivid multisensory hallucinations, changes in perception of the body, alteration of states of consciousness, manifestation of "entity" contact, and myriads of other strange and awesome effects. The experience often presents itself to the senses while leaving the user fairly lucid, allowing for a sort of dialogue with the experience, though at higher doses it can also weaken or destroy the sense of self which alters the experience significantly.
In contrast, LSD seems to creep up from the background and alters the mind and perception of the user significantly, but with much less emphasis on vivid hallucination (though there is hallucination. LSD often presents itself inside the user, where DMT presents itself outside (of course, these are loose geralizations) I find LSD to be a good friend and tool, whereas I find DMT to be more of a teacher, healer and window to truth and growth.
LSD, when taken with an open, balanced and collected mind, is a fantastic tool for exploring the self, getting in touch with the senses and healing weaknesses of the mind, as well as opening one up to useful perceptions that he or she may previously have taken for granted or simply never noticed. I've also seen many more people experience problems with LSD than DMT, as it is important to keep your wits about you not take the experience seriously until one is down and sober.
DMT, on the other hand, is a bit more enigmatic. While it is more powerful, fast acting and takes very little time, it can be so fast and intense that it can be challenging to pay attention to what's going on, or even remember it afterward. DMT will almost always bring forth an experience that will show the user deeper, more fundamental aspects of themselves and their perceived reality... But these messages are so darn enigmatic that most users will never be able to make heads or tales of them. Proper integration of a DMT experience can and should take months or years, lifetimes even.
The only person who can determine whether or not to use these chemicals, or which chemical to use, is you. Likewise, nobody can tell you how they will effect you personally. What can be said for certain is that these chemicals deliver powerful experiences that can and will push or shatter the limits of reality as you know it. This can be a life altering experience, and should be faced with courage and a good heart.
Happy Trails
