It's been a while since I have popped on here.
I need some assistance with remembering how to extract again. I was learning how to do it with my boyfriend last year. He did all the research and bought all the things and showed me how to extract. After our bitter break-up, he took all of the materials away (and most of the medicine that we made). It's been almost a year now since we split up, so I am trying to remember how the process works and what I need to purchase and do if I want to get back into business by myself! Can anyone point me to the most effective way to extract (that will not cost a ton of money in materials)? I have a recipe written down, and I remember most of the extraction process. There are just a few steps at the end, after freezing, that I am unclear on because we broke up before I could really understand the final filtration process. Like what to do with the crystals once they are dried out and how to purify them and how to add them to propylene glycol to make it into vape juice?
The recipe we used called for 100g ground bark (mimosa hostilis) in lye with 150ml Heptane added to it. I remember keeping large glass beakers on top of my warm gas cooktop and swirling them around for several minutes, several times per day, until I could see a nice layer of separation forming at the top. Once I had enough I then used a long glass pipette to extract the top layer and place it in a Pyrex dish. Once I extracted everything that I could, I froze it and then scraped the crystals into a new container.
Then what???
I remember my boyfriend attempted to purify by melting the crystals in a new jar and then pouring it through a reusable mesh coffee filter which seemed to leave a lot of waste behind and left me wondering if it was the most effective way to purify without wasting tons of medicine. What is a less clumsy way to purify?
What do I do when I want to turn the crystals into vape juice? How do I know how much medicine to put in the propylene?
I also saw something about a "seperating funnel" that seems more effective for extraction than using the damn pipette and trying not to suck out any plant material, I am curious about that too.
