Help with an extraction (are these brown/red crystals safe?)

so the Tek i've been following is
  • 750ml water
  • 100g Sodium Hydroxide
  • 100g Mimosa Hostilis
  • extracting with Heptane (usually at 80 F)
i tend to shake my sludge and Heptane rather than vortex swirl; a good amount of my Heptane is trapped in emulsion, but a lot separates out into a distinct and not cloudy layer, like a normal method would.
i've been recycling my Heptane, currently on batch 3 and 4 with it. it's been progressively getting more and more yellow with each pull.
on my most recent set of pulls (the third pulls on two simultaneous batches) i added 30g of salt and did the extraction at 100 F. the heptane was very amber this time, though i saw no signs of base particulates floating around in it.
when i froze it, i got huge crystals and weird fatty-looking sludge. wish i had taken a picture at this stage, but i didn't.
here are some pictures after evaporation:

so did i end up with a bunch of something weird in this pull, or is this DMT being polymorphic? most importantly, is it safe to smoke, or do i need to clean it up? kinda hoping it contains a lot of NMT and maybe other stuff that is potentially fun and safe.

Missed this one the first time round as I was busy.

Looks like the polymorphism to me - in fact, I'd say your crystals look really cute 🤩
Could you try dissolving some in water and then adding heptane to pull the dmt from the solution leaving behind whatever is making it the warm colour? Idk I'm mostly bumping cus I'm interested:)
The DMT freebase, shouldn't dissolve in neutral water to any appreciable extent. If the reddish colour does pass noticeably into a little water it would be an indication that recrystallisation from heptane or light naphtha is necessary. Remove the water, then allow the drystals to dry completely before dissolving them in a just sufficient amount of warm heptane (no naked flames!), This will also separate the red oily material that gives your crystals their colour, but is nonetheless almost entirely DMT. The red oily material can be reserved, after decanting off the heptane for the DMT to recrystallise, and then processed further with a mini A/B to recover a further crop of (with any luck) crystals.
