Hello. I did a freeze precip in naphtha overnight. It was my first tek attempt. After taking out of the freezer, the naphtha was a very cloudy white. Does this mean there was a lot more spice in the naphtha? Or maybe the freezer wasn't cold enough?
Anyway, when I saw the white spots on the glass, I thought I had succeeded. I poured out the naphtha and tried to retreive the spice. But to my surprise, the white stuff was very sticky and resiny and gooey and much more difficult to isolate than I thought. It seemed to dissolve in to nothing when I touched it with anything and I felt like I was losing much spice. Also when I touched it, it turned from white to a yellow color, and I wondered if that was a chemical reaction.
I panicked and tried to retrieve as much as I could immediately, and a spoon actually worked better for me than a razor because it was so gooey. I seem to have only saved about 40mg of yellow goo which I put in an open gelcap, and let it dry. It turned in to a waxy texture in the gelcap, and melted the cap half way, and I don't know what effect the residual naphtha had on the gelcap, but hopefully most of the naphtha is gone. I don't know if it's edible as it is..... though I was thinking of popping it tomorrow. By the way, how long is freebase consumeable at room temperature? A week? Do you think my stuff is ok to eat considering the way I harvested it?
So what could be done differently? Would it have been better if I let my spice dish dry out completely? How can I get it to a powder that would have been much easier to encapsulate? Even the goo that I couldn't get this morning, I let it dry in the glass container completely and by tonight, it was just really sticky resin that was near impossible to scrape off the glass. I imagine if I let the whole thing sit the whole day, it would have been just a big sticky mess. How do you guys deal with this goo?
Also, just wondering, is the smell of spice that musky smell? I would describe it as old corn that might be a little too old to eat. I wondered if that smell was the spice, or the combination reactions that took place throughout the process.
