I don't think I'm forfeiting any benefits. I can't find my torch lighter, don't have money to buy a new one, and this works just about as well for how I smoke in multiple inhalations. It's also easier for me to hold the wick in the right spot for the last hits than to try to operate a lighter with fumble-y dmt fingers.

If you hold the wick at a steep angle in the gvg (with cap on) it will vaporize pot. I haven't tried it with dmt because it burns wick faster to do the angle thing than to just take the cap off and I haven't had problems with burning using this method anyway. Do wooden pipes have caps on them? Or you mean classic vg?
