How close?

SWIM took a monster hit or 3 today and for the first time he forgot how to breath. The visuals were almost attacking him and coming at him with force almost going through him? Hard to explain but it was intense - almost frightening, mainly since SWIM was trying to breath.

Anyway, close to a breakthrough?

I'd say so, that's sometimes the last thing I remember when I breakthrough - Breath? Mouth? Me? Boom. But most of the time you don't have time to think, that's when you know.

Well I could force myself to breath, but damn it took some serious work. Need to try again and take 4 massive hits like that.

Also, the last hit tasted flowery? SWIM grinned for like 20 minutes at this realization. SWIM tasted the smell of flowers.

Breakthroughs are hard to define. May I ask how many times you have smoked spice? I know my first 10 times or so, no matter how much I smoked I would run up against "The Grid" (other names fit as well). It seemed that was all spice had to show me, pretty colors and intense euphoria.

Keep going....you may just need a few more times. Also, that first hit is really the most important hit. The more you can take (and hold) the further you will get. 3 is also not the limit. I know Mr. McKenna says 3, and I know people who take that as law, but you can keep smoking it until you no longer recognize the lighter in your hand.

My friend from peru found it pretty hard and almost dangerous to keep hitting. He almost burned his face with his lighter once.

Yeah, its good to have someone nearby to take the smoking device once the effects come on.

haha SWIM has smoked spice until he couldnt tell if he was exhaling or inhaling...his friends quickly took the pipe from his lips

"attacking you" is right ! ... You're onto it .. ! Keep practicing, and be safe ! You will not actually die, but that's the usual response to seeing the whole of creation ! Nor will you stop breathing for good - your brain has autonomic, failsafe systems for that..! Three seconds can feel like eons in Hyperspace ... that 'long-time-no-breath' instinct needs to realize it's in Hyperspace !

The realm of the dead requires no breath ! so when we get to peek into it, our bodies' survival 'habits' are useless ... !

Every launch for me is all about the breath and reducing breathing-panic.. and then, once I 'remember to breathe' (in the first 60 - 120 seconds) if it's true for others, that realm, Hyperspace, opens up just as though it IS a space between the breath, that's there all the time, but you almost have to forget to breath to notice it seething there inside you too !. Breathing is a sinusoidal noise, an 'in-and-out weave' ontop of the more subtle din of Hyperspace, and before your breath existed there was an eternal, infinite, humming realm full of potential.

If I remember to try, sometimes I 'go-in' on the wave of my breathing, but without 'rushing' to get oxygen back in me ... . As you exhale the last toke, hold it a few a seconds at the bottom of your breath, and suddenly things might deepen. Try to hold for 5 - 10 seconds at the top of your first few inhalations ... while hovering into that 'Other' place...

Sometimes it feels like you might pee yourself too, but that has actually never happenes either, but I go to the loo before launch. ! If anything don't 'clench' .. slacken ... drop jaw ... loosen every 'fright' response ... drool .. it's all ok ! Put on a pair of imaginary Psychonaut-diapers - allow yourself to 'panic' but continue to let go, and it's ok to make any psychic-spills you want on the way out ! Take a long time relax the pulse to a slow rate to help oxygenate the body well before vapourizing the dose - 80 bpm and an empty bladder ...
