How did you first approach psyches?

Over in the Rogan thread I've noticed alot of prejudice towards guys who would like Joe Rogan or his stand up, AKA The Average Man. It seems that some think that Rogan's ranting will draw negative attention to DMT(probably true) and open the substance up to a bunch of knuckleheads who will not understand what they're doing. That's not how I feel, I'm on the average man's side, but that is what I see. Some member seems to believe that because average dudes will not approached entheogens(speaking generally now) with respect and will not know how to integrate their experience, it will be wasted time that will probably be filled with them doing dumb things.

Well as the title asks, how did YOU approach entheogens? I know I fell into the category of the average man, but that didn't stop entheogens from having a profound impact on me from the very first time I used them. Mushrooms were actually my first. I was ignorant, scared, and excited. I didn't have any respect for them because I didn't know anything about them. I was mad when I didn't think they were working, and I was awe inspired when I saw that the world was made up of millions of tiny colorful fractals. That first experience still hangs with me today.

I remember being fourteen years old crying to my mom like a little bitch because I KNEW I needed mushrooms but I couldn't find them anywhere. It was some weird instinct I had.
She was completely baffled and had no idea what to do with me.

Then I picked some a couple years later, made a tea, and drank it on my bed listening to headphones. Godspeed you! black emperor. I realized I could explore the mind with precision, and have been ever since.
