How the Nexus got its name

Migrated topic.

Rising Star
Greetings, all...

The best thing about this forum is exactly what its name holds it out as: a common place where many people with different pasts and stories can coalesce and influence one another into beginning new paths which might had otherwise not been blazed.

I got into drugs early; smoking marijuana as a preteen led to multiple summers washed away in a lysergic haze. I then tried (and by “tried” I mean “used liberally”) cocaine, benzodiazepines, all kinds of opiates and opioids, DXM, MDMA, ketamine, GHB, methamphetamines, NO2, and finally I ate psilocybin mushrooms at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. That rocked.

Erowid was always my guide, and that is the site that peaked my interest in DMT. As a connoisseur of hallucinogens (my all-time favorite,) I was always interested in that “next level” trip that was completely dissociative and made me see things that were not there. I wanted this out of a primal adolescent desire to find, and then breach, the boundaries of my conscious ego, and I read about such an experience that could be had with DMT.

Now, I am interested in the spirit molecule for somewhat different reasons. I am a secular humanist lawyer who strives to find logic and reasonability in all things; I do not entertain ideas that I cannot explain rationally. I am, however, infinitely intrigued by the untapped areas of the human psyche and the seemingly endless plane of what we call consciousness. I want to journey deep within myself to see what is there.

My first DMT experience was at a Tool concert. Two kids sitting next to me passed me a joint and told me it was laced with DMT. I had been wanting to try this for a very long time. I hit it twice, holding it in as long as possible both times. Unfortunately my borderline asthma and the harshness of the marijuana made it almost untenable. Still, I felt effects more massive than I ever had in my life. I had to sit down during one of my favorite songs to take in the entire arena. Everything and everyone around me turned a deep shade of red, almost crimson. I could hear every note perfectly even though it seemed to be coming from light years away.

What stuck out most of all was that it seemed as though I could hear every word of every conversation between each of the eighteen thousand people around me. It was very, very intense. I regained some semblance of sobriety about ten minutes later but (even though it was an outstanding rock show) all I could think about was how incredible an experience I just had.

Not too long after that, I extracted what I could out of about 50 grams of mimosa tenuiflora using a hasty A/B technique that I found on Mycotopia. The yield, quality and most importantly the experience were subpar at best.

Then I found this forum.

I am about to perform a more professional extraction on a larger scale, and I want to contribute what I can as a full member of this nexus.

I want to do this in order to share what I have learned from lurking, reading, and inquiring from this site. I want to perfect a method of attaining spice and post an experience report for the benefit of those who are soon to be in my shoes. Most importantly, I want to become a full member so that I may contribute, more completely, to this community of ideas which utilizes a wonderful entheogen to evolve our species into (hopefully) something better than what we are in our current state.

Thank you for reading.

I am sure Amsterdam rocked but if the museum was as happy about it, probably not.

As a result of foreigners tripping their minds out in our capital, our government decided a few years back to prohibit mushrooms, so they are now no longer legal to be sold in smart shops. The result is that the growing industry has dissipated, smart shops lost a chunk of their income and hundreds of thousands of people who could easily get what they needed cannot anymore.

Often my country gets praise from abroad for its liberal values and drug policy and easy access to drugs. But then foreigners come end end up on some drug binge rampage tour and get rushed to the hospital. That 'tour' gets registered and becomes a figure, a statistic which then forms the basis for politicians to intervene.
Thus we have become a victim of our own success in dealing with drugs in society.

I guess I will repeat McKenna here, who said that Mozart is good on its own without being loaded. I don't think that is what shrooms are for, especially since art is an approximation, an alternate vision on nature and reality as a whole. It seems therefore weird to trip on Van Gogh, who has his own unique perspective on reality. Leave that as it is for its own sake. The painting is a trip onto itself.

It is very sad that foreigners cannot behave themselves here and destroy our freedoms with their conduct.

Wasnt it down to a conservative government that Mushrooms got banned in Holland? It stemmed from some frecnh girl jumping in a canal and their parents were suing the government?? though I can go to france get drunk on wine and fall of the eiffel tower and thats allright?? I wouldnt go blaming tourists for mushrooms being banned in your country, I also had a low dose of philosopher stones at the van gogh museum and it was one of the highlights of my trip that time, I mean this attitude that the OP is " doing it wrong" is nonsense, maybe to you but personally when I go to amsterdam, well when I used to go fairly reguarly I would dose low doses of philosophers for fun, now what does that make me?? Its very sad that people judge others for taking mushrooms and going to a museum! The problem is the facist system that criminalises drug users, not some of the population who may abuse these things, which I dont think myself or the OP has been doing!

Oh and welcome OP Im sure when you do your first excraction you will get to know dmt and its infinite facets, I get jealous of people who are just discovering it, was a golden time for my friends and I, all the best!

thanks for reading, visty...

i can appreciate what you are saying and im sure tourists give their homeland band names all the time but i wasnt one of those people. i went for the art, the history, the people, the food and i can honestly say i behaved myself and had a great time. van gogh is my favorite artist and, while im sure i would have enjoyed the museum in a sober and lucid state, i didnt come to you country just to get fucked up and be otherwise stupid.

it is a shame that legislators are such reactionaries when it comes to bad apples exploiting a good thing like freedom, but your country's historic level of tolerance is what helped me make the decision to come to the netherlands in the first place. hopefully we can help each other put the motion of things back in the right direction soon. :d

thanks a bunch, infinite...

your assumptions about my visit were well-placed and i try to be the positive example of my country wherever i travel... i didnt take shrooms at a museum just to be a dumb american on drugs, i did them because i knew i wanted vincent's colors to jump out bright enough to create a beautiful lasting memory and that is exactly what happened (the philosophers are what i took as well)

the extraction went well, i posted a trip report in the welcome section and will be giving a detailed extraction log as soon as i find the time to put it together in a format that is as helpful as possible to all readers. thanks for making me feel welcome i really like the attitude of this site :d

Seeohhdee, you seem like an intelligent level headed sort of person, you come shroom in my home town anytime.

As far as intoxicated tourists, that happens everywhere. I used to work and live in wine country and have had to endure many heavily inebrieated europeans, asians, south americans, australians etc. The results are car accidents, sobriety check points and housekeeping has to clean up the burgundy cheese and cracker vomit the next day. Not to mention the whole west coast USA weed thing. Irresponsible tourists attract unwanted attention anywhere you go. So, no harsh judgement here for 'foreigners' tripping in museums, personally i think that would be a great experience (topping a wine and cheese tour -blah). There is nothing wrong with a little responsible enhancement while having new experiences, in my humble opinion.

I look forwrd to your TEK. Peace 😉

Hey visty, it might be a good idea to have a humanist cerebral lawyer on your side. No? Just a thought.
