Has anyone here ever heard of, or experimented with the use of hypnotism as an aid in recalling hyperspace travel? I've heard about the use of hypnotism for "alien abduction" victims, to help recall the entire event. Dis Strassman use hypnotism in his studies? Is anyone here experienced in the use of hypnotism?

Hi idtravler,

I suspect that it would not help, even with a very deep hypnotic trance. I suspect it is an issue of state-specific knowledge. The hypnotic trance is NOTHING like the spice trance or hyperspace realms . . .Although the idea of trying to use an altered state to access memories is a good one using extremely different states is probably as efficacious as just sitting on your couch and trying to remember what happened while sipping a beer . . .

Idtravlr, do you (or does anyone here) have a legitimate way of experimenting with this, or at least trying it out a couple of times?

I think it would require someone with true, professional hypnosis experience, to really get something out of it.
As apposed to having a friend read a bit about hypnosis techniques on the net & then trying to do this for/with you.

I don't know anything about hypnosis beyond what I've picked up watching a documentary or two that involved it a little bit on the Science channel, etc...
So I don't know how, or where you'd hook up with a real hypnotist to get this underway.

BTW...by "real hypnotist", I guess I'm talking about someone familiar with the more scientific and/or psychological applications of it.
Not the hypnotist from down on the boardwalk, who hypnotizes tourist's into doing stupid stunts for donations in a passed around hat!!😉
I'm gonna guess that's what you meant too though.

Keep us informed if you end up doing any poking around with this!!!

Hello,

If I may suggest: Perhaps seek a professional hypnotherapist who uses Eriksonian techniques. Nonetheless, there is nothing about anyone's personality, makeup, experience, etc. that indicates whether or not they will make a good hypnotic subject. Entire phenomenon follows a standard bell curve. Most people somewhat able to achieve trance. Some not at all. Some quite deeply.

I would also be fascinated to hear the results of such a self-experiment . . .

I wonder if that is really necessary... some light self-hypnosis as it is being used for dream-recall might also work already (techniques can be found all over the internet). However, some memories might not be retrievable, simply because the situations were accompanied by extreme stress (positive or negative), which interferes with the process of chemical storage (like having no memory of an actual accident - which cannot be retrieved either, because the process of copying the template from short-term to long-term memory is interrupted). Might try this when I have a little peace and quiet (in other words, when my gf has gone home) and report back.
