I compared max ion tek and salt tek and this is the result (first match of play offs)

Migrated topic.

Rising Star
I'm testing different teks and try to find the best overall
But my priority is yield because MHRB is very expensive in my country
The MHRB I used is low quality but I used the same bark for both extractions

Results:

Salt tek 50 gr MHRB (modified) = 0.623
Max ion tek 100 gr MHRB (followed the instructions in pdf) = 0.770

Salt tek was modified 👇

3X freeze/thaw after acid soak
Using hot naphtha pulls
Adding 10 grams more lye to avoid emulation

Conclusion:

Max ion tek isn't really an upgrade
It's a downgrade from salt tek
(Wish I could talk about it with Cyb)

My theory:

Adding 1L of salinated water to the brew mess up everything
Too much volume for 50ml naphtha to touch every part of the brew

I think the freeze thaw Part and hot naphtha pulls are good
but I should test them side by side and see how much difference does it make + 3X freeze thaw itself makes the extraction too long.

Please share you opinion
Actually it's the second time I do this comparison
But last time numbers were little unreliable
Still I felt that max ion yield is lower significantly

I would try an additional pull with a more "broad spectrum" non polar solvent like xylene and see if you get a bit more out of it. Also that yield is still decent, not something worth being disappointed over but I can understand why you want more out of it. Also it could be bark quality or if the source you got it from his dodgy might only be 50% MHRB and 50% something else, unlikely but you never know. Could also be your process. It can take a few runs to find what works for you.

Thank you. I will try xyl. I read that you can only evaporate it. I don't have a open space to do this.

About the bark I purchase bark wood chips. It's not in powder form. I powder them myself so ...
I know which site they buy it from. I think I can't say the name but they send it in white packaging and it has a dye label print on it.

I will try an A/B tek and compare it to salt tek next time

If you haven't powdered it right that could also be an issue. Longer base period (like a week) may help to breakdown the bark if your powder is 'chunky'. Someone else might weigh in on this.

This is the reason it was recommended to work with smaller batches. You gain experience & knowledge each time. It sounds like you did pretty well with the Salt Tek.

I powder them with a small spice/coffee grinder
But there is always some fiber in the powder
Maybe I can freeze the fiber and grind them again

Thank you. It would be good if there was some comparison work between teks
We got Many tek comparison posts on shroomery. I will do what I can with my limited resources

What is the best tek for you so far?
