Thanks so much!
About three years ago I was driving from the mountains down into town. Things were not going well at all, I was
really depressed and did not want to head down there. I really did not want to face my day, so I just pulled over, parked, and walked over to the creek. I sat on a rock a few feet from the shore, just to be by the water and see if I could get my head cleared up a bit.
A single butterfly landed in a sunny spot on the rocks below and in front of me. It was mostly brown, with white and orange markings that formed a small oval across the wings. I've looked online but have not been able to find the exact butterfly.
It sort of slowly walked around for a minute, then rotated its body so it was oriented with its wings to the sun, I guess to warm itself. Another of the same butterfly landed a foot or so away, then another and more until there were 12 or so, all slowly walking around on the rock and aligning together with their wings all pointed so that they were catching the sun on their backs. They were all very slowly opening and closing their wings, not in unison, but all facing the same direction, so there was this beautiful combination of order in their positioning and randomness in the pattern of which ones had their wings opened to reveal the patterns and which had their wings closed.
This went on for 20 minutes or so, and as I sat there I just became so calm and peaceful. I felt like they were doing this for me, though for all I know this may be what they did every day, I have no idea. Eventually they all flew away one at a time. It did so much for my mood and depression, I had this feeling -
Mother Nature Loves You.
I had a feeling inside very much like the afterglow of a psychedelic experience, but calmer. I went back to my car, went to town and dealt with my day feeling much better.
