Improving SWIM's STB tek

Migrated topic.

SWIM is trying to improve SWIM's STB tek for maximum yields. A few questions:

1. What kind of container does SWIY use? SWIM has been using gallon glass pickle jars but they don't always seal well and it can be a pain to remove the naptha layer when its so spread out.
2. How long does SWIY let the lye-water-mimosa mix sit before pulling? Does this seem to make a big difference? How about after adding naptha? How much time spent shaking and mixing is recommended?
3. What water/lye/mimosa/naptha ratio does SWIY find most effective? Is 10/1/1/1 ideal?
4. SWIM is considering using a dry ice/acetone bath for a quick freeze precip. Comments?
5. SWIM is looking for something usable as a rubber policeman, for scraping out xtals from beakers. Suggestions?

Looking to do 500-1000 g's of mimosa at a time with at least 1% yields.

SWIM's best yield was 1.1, but he has only done a handful of extractions.

1: Glass works perfect, but apparently so do gallon milk jugs.
SWIM uses gallon glass bottles that look like they should have XXX on them :D

2: If you are doing a big amount then there should be no hurry if you want a good yield.
SWIM left his for 3 days shaking it 2-3 times a day and got much better yield than one left for 2 hours shaking every 15 min

Just do a small extraction (50g) soaking only for a few hours if you want some fast, but don't rush a big project

3: Most people say 15ml/1g/1g/1ml is fine, SWIM thinks 10/1/1/1 is pushing it, it's better to have too much water than too little.
of course naptha is PER PULL, you want to do 2 or 3

4. speedy freezing = yellow spice
If you cool it slowly then the slag precipitates, then the white DMT

SWIM likes putting the container in the naptha in a bowl of warm water to make it cool even slower. FLUFFY WHITES!

(SWIM is new to freezer, this is his experience although some may have done the same with different results)

5. The crystals are pretty easy to get out, no need for scraping usually, just swirl and pour into a coffee filter.

Take it slow and follow the steps and if your bark has 1%, you will get 1%

1- I use jars for 50-100gr. But finding a proper glass container for a kilo is a bit hard.. I have a very nice one tho :p

2- For first pull i shake every 5-6 hours and take the pull next day. for second pull 48 hours. 3rd pull 48 hours. shaking it for 30-60 sec enough i presume.

3- I always use 6/0.5/1/1.5

4- never heard of quick freeze precipt. I noticed after 7-8 hours most of it precipitates but for best result at least 30-35 hours

5- Scrapping crystal after freeze precipt you mean ? i use a knife :p

That's an interesting ratio... what kinds of yields did you get

lol it changes.. i said i always use that ratio but sometimes it changes if the layers dont seperate or if i see first yield is not satisfactory :p when necessary it can be up to 8/0.75/1/1.5 :p you have to experiment a bit to find the best for urself. i get 0.8-0.9% mostly. but ive got 1% too it changes from time to time ehehehhe :D:D

While SWIM always basifies in glass jars, he prefers to collect all of the basified goop into a single HDPE jug to mix with the solvent. If SWIY has a cat (or even if not), cat litter sometimes comes in fairly wide-mouthed large HDPE jugs with lids that don't seem to leak when shaking. SWIM's managed to find these extremely cheap.
