My wife went there for about a month.  She loved it but came back with a terrible tropical disease.  Antibiotics helped her get over it instantly once they identified it as Rickettsia, but she still has some minor scars from the spots (mostly just on the feet, but they're going away slowly).  If you have open cuts or scrapes, don't come in contact with any animals.  Don't give anything to the child beggars, of which there are plenty; they work for people who steal most of their earnings.
