So I just put in an order here for an alkaline earth silicate material which is safer and stable at higher heat than ceramic or fiberglass fibre but right now I only have fiberglass rope.
I tried to use the fibreglass rope with DMT and it tended to flow into the middle and not vaporize. I was worried the new stuff I was ordering might do the same so I tried a little prototype design with the fiberglass rope weaved (quite micky mouse-ly) trough a previously-used copper mesh ball.
When I used it to scrape up the gooey jimjam DMT it worked wonderfully, much much better than copper alone getting all of it in 3 seconds instead of 80-90% in 10+ seconds.
When I put the flame to it plumes of smoke came off and I was somewhat surprised that the smoke tasted smoother and more DMT-y than with the copper.
The fiberglass rope is stable at up to 500-600C and simply melts after that. I messaged 4 different suppliers and they told me that fumes coming off them are not a worry and most of the respiratory concerns are from insulation which is in MASSIVE quantities compared to this. Regardless I'm not stating this specific design as safe or recommended.
I plan to do the same with the Alkaline Earth Silicate material, or something close to it, but I was quite impressed with the performance of this prototype.
