Intro Essay. My DMT experience and a question about DMT, Psychedelics in general and Hallucinogens

Hi All,

I've come to say hello to all the members on this site and to share my DMT experience and ask a specific question that’s been on my mind. Firstly I've taken Magic mushrooms, LSD and most recently DMT when I was travelling through South East Asia, I'm not a big psychedelic user by any means.

The DMT experience was to put it mildly, mind blowing. I took DMT about 3 months ago and to be perfectly honest I only vaguely knew what it was as I had read a little here and there. I was never really that interested in it but when the opportunity presented itself I took it. The interesting thing about the circumstance around this was the guy who was administering it had 3 doses left, 1 guy had gone before me and the other was just about to go, his wife started talking about her DMT experience then asked if I wanted to try it? Why not? About 30 minutes after that, a guy I had been travelling with, and who was really keen on Psychedelics, and had always wanted to try DMT arrived and asked if he could have it. A dilemma! Only one dose and 2 guys. To be honest I had been preparing myself for those 30 minutes so was a little reluctant to now back out. The answer was simple, a coin flip, he called it and I won it, so there was no more to think about.

So, I went into the Tepee, yep a tepee. Frank told me don't worry, you'll still be you when you return, this was reassuring and at the same time quite disconcerting.. Anyway I started to slowly inhale and wham... Like a digital pixelated computer screen everything evaporated before my eyes and it was on. At first I had the thought that I was dead, my body felt like it had been erased by a laser, a laser that erased my body like it was disintegrating it atom by atom, holy shit, maybe this is what death is like? Consciousness without a physical form..

The next moments on DMT were very overwhelming. I don't really remember this phase very well, but there was a lot going on, colours patterns shapes, tunnels, all coming full on, it was a little scary but manageable. After this the next thing i remember was arriving in some kind of technology or machine. I think this is a crude description of what it is but it’s what it felt like, and there was the humming, like an electronic chanting or something. Now there it was, I think there were 3 beings. I don't want to call them aliens as again I don't think that's exactly the right description but they were beings of some kind. There was one who started to ask me questions, telepathically, I don't remember what it was asking, but it looked like a cross between some kind of Buddha with a type of reptile face. Not like in the movies but something different, again difficult to describe and a little scary. It sat in a lotus position and its whole body was an electronic light, kind of like a Christmas tree lights, but flowing everywhere like a conveyor belt. When it asked me questions it didn't seem to need me to answer as it went directly to my consciousness and extracted the answer, but i don't know what answer it was extracting.. I just felt it enter my consciousness then come back out, it was like it tapped directly into me and it would say "yes" after it had the information. After each question, it asked me could it go in again? I don't actually remember answering but it did go back in, and it kind of made sure I was OK after each time it did this. Eventually, this is where the trip came to an end, it asked me did I want to stay, I remember definitely saying "no thank you". The next thing I knew I was back in the tepee staring at the ceiling and I was actually speaking out loud saying no thank you, no thank you, no thank you and that was the end.

The next few days is where I thought about the experience and one interesting thing I found was animations, writing, pictures, art and other symbols all seemed to be infused with DMT inspiration, like DMT was at work behind the scenes in a major way. After a few days I didn't think much about DMT and put it down to an interesting experience, not one I'd necessarily do again, but an interesting drug that made me see these things.

OK, so skip to many months later. A week ago and I began to think about DMT again. I know DMT is a Psychedelic, but I thought what I had on DMT were maybe some kind of an hallucination, maybe.. But it was just the drug and my brain making these things up, right? Then I remembered I read somewhere that Psychedelics don't make you hallucinate, a quick Wikipedia and it says the word hallucinogen is a misnomer they simply modify regular perceptions... Wow, WTF! And then I checked out Aldous Huxley’s Mind at large and the thinking goes... basically the brain is blocking out all these other perceptions as it would be too overwhelming, so what does this mean, it was real? This maybe isn't news to people here but it was a realisation, maybe an epiphany, so what does this mean? Is this really correct? Any comments and clarification would be most welcome, I'm interested and its intriguing.

Thats a very interesting experience. dmt is more of an entheogen than a psychedelic, but you're correct that the hallucinations aren't delusions but more of experiencing an altered state of what you already perceive. Thats why the dmt expirience is so much like a dream, it happens quickly, but can seem like an eternity and when you wake up from it , it slowly fades unless you try real hard to remember it. The expirience is as real as you make it, but it is always purposeful and carrying a message. Trying to determine whether it was real or not is unimportant as long as you gain as much as you can from it and try to have a good time in the process.

Its like when Shamans receive a vision. This doesn't neccesarily mean they See the vision with their eyes, but rather perceive and channel the vision with their minds.

I recommend you check a book called Food of The Gods if you don't already know about it. It should help to answer a lot of the questions you want to know about the reality of the experience.

also listen to some lectures of Terence Mckenna and Graham Hancock. They can tell you a lot.

A brilliant composition of pondered thoughts and questions..

I wish my intro was as well rounded hehe

I second food of the gods, I have read many excerpts of a friends copy over time and intend to get it myself pretty soon (Currently tackling 'Astral Dynamics' by Robert Bruce).

Appreciate the comments by both responders. Thank you for the feedback, and I tried to express what happened to me in a meaningful way. I feel I was trying to get all the details out as quick;y as possible, probably not the best grammar, but its difficult.. An ethnogen is a probably a good way to describe what it is, but again it is difficult to find meaning in something so intense. The time thing was not so prevelant in my experience, time was what it was and not something that struck me as major thing, different experiences and people probably attach more meaning to this then I could or would have. Whatever it was it was an experience beyond anything i could have imagined. Incredible and interesting. Thank you, it was a real trip..

Whether you feel it is correct or not is essentially down to yourself.. There are people sat on various fences regarding this very aspect.

I myself tend to feel these things are indeed real, apart from maybe a few aspects that are possibly internal fears manifested into some of the spaces one travels to, the little 'repeat fractal entities' that appear. My wife says they appear to her like paper chain cut outs and was told by some healer/guide that these were manifestations of her fear of panic attacks (A Reiki tiger with a Jamaican accent no less hahaha) and to ignore them.

I have seen enough to know I want to give 100% respect and do the things I am being urged to do. (Apparently I have to improve my health/well-being and learn to 'overcome the awe' before this will happen).

I have only sensed entities at the moment and they have yet to fully reveal themselves, however when I say sense I mean way beyond just a feeling or vibe.. Telepathy seems to be the mainstay for these realms (or creating scenarios as a form of communication).

Some of the reports on here from the wiser more experienced heads have indicated the imparting of knowledge not known to the particular travelers and also apparently visions of future events in their lives etc.

I will say I am still in the "shallow end" regarding my travels, only just starting into double digits and as such the above is my limited thoughts on the subject.

I would not state them as any absolute fact and would recommend taking advice from some of the wise-minds on here. Even without the journeying I feel I have grown from just reading up on things via this forum over the past 5-6 months (enough to make me become a member of my first ever forum lol).

The sincerest of luck, skill and will on your travels

I'm just gonna share my thoughts ...
Some time ago I decided to ... to try to find out if there is an afterlife, if there are souls. I decided so because there were lots of people claiming that there indeed is an afterlife, people who said they had out of body experiences, and saw other beings. People who had spiritualistic experiences. And now I'm reading of people, having similar experiences, only on drugs. All this people brought me here, and I'm grateful for that. Soon I will too discover something new.

So thank you all, and thank you OP for sharing this experience with everyone. And welcome!

Well there are different ideas on it, but here's mine. There are different dimensions and each dimension and everything in it operates on a certain frequency. Psychedelics can allow us to open up to other frequencies, to perceive them, to communicate with them. Now the idea of multiple dimensions would seem pretty out there to many people & outright crazy to some....but it's an idea which has been put forth by shamans and occultists for millenia & an idea which some of the leading scientific minds are now coming to embrace. A theory which is becoming increasingly popular and is attracting support from some of the worlds leading scientists is unification theory aka string theory - which supports the idea that matter vibrates at a certain resonance.

I could go on and on about it & pull up all sorts of examples but I'll just leave it at that, you can see that the questions are there though and the possibilities those questions could present.

I've had strange experiences with psychedelics which lead me to believe there is substance to the idea that there is more going on than a simple drug getting us high & that's that. I have been shown information while tripping which I have not known, I have gone away and researched it and found the information to be accurate. I don't believe it was buried in my subconcious because I have excellent recall & I know that these subjects were nothing I had ever looked into or heard about before my experience.

I've had dozens of experiences but I think I've barely scratched the surface and after a break of a few years I'm throwing myself back into psychedelics because i KNOW they are tools which can help us to learn, to grow, to effect positive personal change, to bring out hidden creativity. That's if you treat them with respect and are open to learning.

Thanks for all the replies here, again appreciated. I think that I agree with KaiserSaucy in that I'm going to start investigating Psychedelics again after a long break.

I was reading about Steve Job and the computer age and how these guys were often inspired by LSD and Mushrooms, not to mention Francis Crick's dicsovery of the DNA double helix while on LSD. Although, maybe importantly, he was taking low doses of Acid. I was discussing this with a friend and he was talking about all the fantastic art, movies, music etc that came from the 70s when Psychedelics were used a lot more, and all the breakthroughs that came in that era that help fuel todays world. I think that's interesting, as opposed to a lot of the the Amphetamine and Alcohol fueled modern world that seems to rob people of their creativity and makes them better at working long hours at shitty jobs or creating violenting behaviour. Anyway I think Psychedelics will be making a return to my world.

Cheers

To me the experience feels much more real than other psychedelic experiences I have. It all feels more real than our so-called reality. Whenever I come out of a journey, I always feel that the "real" world is a hologram that we have put into place to gain a sense of solidity and permanence when in fact the swirling chaos that I just left is the real reality! The fact that the body produces DMT and releases large quantities of it at death is very interesting...as if it is preparing us to re-enter the chaotic realm of the spirits.

mm

Yes, Medicineman. I feel you there. A hologram indeed.
Jumpjack, I loved your story. I have had similar experiences for sure.

That's what I believe happens medicineman - At death DMT is released which aids in separation of our consciousness from the body & moves us to a higher vibrational plane/dimension of existence.

Of course we have the unique privilege amongst the animal kingdom of consuming large enough doses to replicate the experience, but as our bodies are still living we are bound to them and so return, but we can still glimpse the beyond.

I've not had DMT yet, other psychedelics yes....and I used to be very practical about this stuff, psychedelics are just drugs end of story. Then during one trip I received some information, of a subject I knew nothing about, went away after the trip and found it to be spot on. When that happens you really start to think about what's going on. When it happens multiple times and other strange things happen....then anyone with an open mind has to wonder whether there is much much more at play than a simple drug getting us high and nothing else.
