Introduction/Question - DMT for REM Behavior Disorder?

Migrated topic.

Shadow46

Rising Star
Hey guys, you can call me Shadow46.
Mid 20s male from the eastern US with a massive appreciation for entheogens.

I used to be on here often a bit back under a different name but for certain reasons no longer wish to be associated with my old account. Also I'd like to look into getting my old accounts removed if possible. If I recall correctly, "Traveler" would be the one to contact about this ?

Onto my post ...
I've always had weird dreams. By that I don't mean "weird" as in weird things were occurring. For example, I'd define turning into a purple elephant and flying through space as "normal."

By weird I mean they feel totally different. My perspective is usually 1st person and I do not feel as though I'm "myself." The settings are usually indescribable and even when they are, it's very hard to recall the dreams after they occur.

Lately during these "weird" dreams it seems my body doesn't remain paralysed. I believe they call this "REM Behavior Disorder" where quite frequently (it's almost every night now) the body isn't prevented from acting out the dreams. If anyone really cares what's happening in them I'll post it but for now I'll skip over that part.

The "weird" dreams have also become much more violent than usual. The is leading to me hurting my partner in my sleep. It started off as small things like bending her hand and quickly progressed to where if I punch someone in my sleep, I punch her. If I choke someone ...

Furthermore, I'd wake up a lot quicker before when these events would occur. Now It can take me up to 10 seconds (we've been paying attention) to realize what is happening and wake up. This is really eating at me. Every time I wake up and realize what I've done I feel so bad. My girlfriend doesn't want to sleep in separate places though in-case you're wondering why I don't just sleep on the couch ...

I'm posting all of this because:
1) If anyone's dealt with this disorder and has any input - even non-DMT related - please share.
2) For lack of results with various OTC drugs, pot, alcohol, meditation, sleep deprivation, ... It got me thinking about a time-delayed pharmahuasca. A pill that wouldn't kick in until one has been asleep for 5-6 hours so that it's effects hitting during REM phase.

I wonder mostly if it'd give a person more lucidity/control while dreaming.

...

I suppose this is more of two posts in one but since they're related in my case ...
Any input? This matter is quite serious and I need to figure something out.
I figured, who better to ask than those that spend a good amount of time exploring their own minds?

Thanks in advance

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles, and I really do wish you the best... but for the love of all that is good and right in this godforsaken world, SLEEP ON THE COUCH!

Oh, and see a doctor and get comfy in the bathtub full of electric spaghetti you're going to do that sleep study in. You know, the one that will be ordered because you have an incredibly dangerous medical condition that needs immediate attention for your safety and for those around you? Yeah. That one.

Thanks for the reply.
I have decided to start sleeping on the couch.
The hard part wasn't telling myself I need to but rather, my girlfriend.
I think she finally understands though.

Going to a doctor is not an option right now sadly ...
I do not have identification and because of fines, and liking freedom, and some past stupidity ... I've a good chunk of change to shell out before I can replace it. It'll be at least 2 months.

So I've been thinking about any plant/substance I've come across or studied at one point in time and started wondering how DMT would effect the situation. The problem is though, it seems nobody is really certain as to what, if any, role DMT plays in sleep so I guess I'm really reaching.

I'ma try high doses of valerian here and if it doesn't pan out then it's on to a time-released pharma concoction to use before sleep.

I don't know, I thought it'd be an interesting topic given the amount of speculation on DMT & the sleep states.
Would that be a first ?

Are there any studies or any evidence showing that it might help this? It might just end up in you being worse, or waking up in a CRAZY tripped out state where you have no idea what is going on.

A cursory google brought this up here

You have a sleep disorder and needs to be treated. Foods/diet, stopping smoking can help.

I would stay well away from mind expanding drugs for the time being.

Even Tamazipam or similar may help to sleep fully. (see your doctor)

There are many studies and vids out there.

Keep searching.

I had to google that, "REM Behavior Disorder"

You just sent me on a 'research journey'.

My mother would tell me stories from when I was a kid. I would sleep-walk. I remember stories like she went looking for me and found me walking down the road towards the highway in the dead of night with no light, going to the chicken coup and bringing back baby chicks and putting them in the oven, urinating in the bathtub instead of the toilet. She believed that waking a sleep walking person would kill them, so she would cox me back to bed. Once I was staying at my cousins and in the morning there was a huge concern that the door had been unlocked during the night. I just hung my head alittle and suggested that I may have been sleep walking, AGIAN. As a teenager, I threw a frozen pizza in the oven and turned it on without taking the plastic off and going back to bed. I also went through periods of restless leg syndrome, although I didn't know that it had a name or there was anything abnormal about it.

I thought I outgrew it. But after I got married, I would have a dream I was having sex and I would come out of the dream state actually having sex with my wife. This happened occasionally.

It must be hereditary. My son talks in his sleep a lot. A lot of times he will sit up and look right at me and talk, but he is not awake. The non-sensical things to come our of his mouth can be hilarious. Once when I was visiting a friend from youth ministry, we stayed the night at his place. My son had went to sleep while we were up visiting. My son started talking in his sleep, so we decided to mess with him for our amusement. He ended up getting up, going to the door to go somewhere but could not get the locked door open. He then picked up his shoes by the door and walked to the sink and put his shoes in it and then went back to bed. He was unphased by us not being able to contain our laughter.

What's not so funny is many times my son would seem like he is fighting and arguing with someone in his sleep. My heart would hurt trying to imagine the conflict in his being for this to manifest.

There has also been an evolution in my dream state. Dreams can be weird and unrealistic. There are some dreams that were reoccurring. What I have noticed it recent years, I am now 43, that I can logically discern that I am dreaming, while I am dreaming. I would wake up a bit astounded that this level of logic could even be possible in a rem dream state.

I have a lot of questions for Madre Ayahuasca when I meet her in August.
