IPA versus copper?

Migrated topic.

I re-use my little pieces of chore boy.

Well, I wanted to clean up my old spice balls, clean the spice off them and reclaim it. So I soaked them in hot 99@ IPA. I left them like that for two days....can the copper oxidize and leech bad stuff into the IPA that way? Is there a better way to recover spice from chore-boys?

Thanks fellas. I believe the IPA was 91%...I'm sure it's unnessesary, but I'll ph test it, just to make sure the 9% water was not acidic for some reason.

Bit of a resurrection here, but noticed this and was reminded of copper ammines (yes, ammines). This is what happens when ammonia is slowly added to an aqueous solution of copper(II) salts: first copper hydroxide is precipitated, but as the ammonia concentration continues to increase the precipitate redissolves to form a dark blue solution. This dark blue solution contains tetraamminatocopper(II) ions - i.e. a copper ion with four ammonia molecules attached to it - and is also know as cuprammonium hydroxide (which, incidentally, is capable of dissolving cellulose). In a similar manner ethylene diamine also forms soluble complex ions.

Anyhow, what this all boils down to in this case is that, being an amine fairly closely related to ethylene diamine, DMT will in all probability form a complex ion with copper(II) and that complex ion will quite possibly be appreciably soluble in , e.g., 91% IPA. And I'd bet that this imparts a noticeable blue/blue-green coloration to the solvent in question, even at quite low concentrations (the colour of cuprammonium hydroxide is very intense).

Any news, Doodazzle?

Well, the chore boy pieces soaked in 91% IPA for about 2 or 3 weeks. When I removed them and dried them out the IPA was red, the spice balls were loaded with full spectrum spice, with some small black solids floating. Burned spice, one would assume. Then again....copper oxide? Copper(II) oxide - Wikipedia I did note that 2 out of the 6 spice balls had small patches of green, the color typical of copper that has been exposed to the elements.

I ran the IPA through a coffee filter, discarding the very small amount of solids, a bit of black dust. I let the IPA dry out. I should note that these chore boys were pre-loaded with jimjam in a solid form. that jimjam had been giving me headaches about half of the time when I vape it....It's either psychosomatic, or else there is something in my spice, a plant oil or a contamination from the extraction process. This is why I decided to clean up the chore boys. This full spectrum material has given me some of my very favorite experiences and in many ways has been some of my favorite spice, but the headaches need to go.

Anyway, the alcohol jimjam was dehydrated, leaving a red goo. This I dissolved in acetone and passed through a coffee filter. Just today the acetone was dried, again leaving a red goo. This goo 2was mixed with washing soda and water, formed into a paste...

Um, should I be worried about cuprammonium hydroxide now?
