Is Salvia safe ?

Hi Guys ,

I tried Salvia a couple of years ago ,
10X extract . I smoke it in a joint ( i guess it's not the best way to do it ) I felt very little effect and it didn't last long ...

I've seen reports and vids on ppl going nuts on Salvia , having very bas trips ...
Even though i had heavy trips on other compounds , I'm always very cautious with something i never tried before , better safe than sorry !

I'd like to know from the ones who are doing and enjoying it .

Thanks in advance for opinions and advices !

Cheers .

While my personal experience with salvia divinorum is rather slim, I'd like to mention a few important things.

Even though smoked salvia extract is generally considered physiologically safe (except the negative that invariably comes with smoking anything), I would strongly recommend two things:
  • Start with a lower effective dose and work your way up
  • Have an experienced sitter
Both are equally important, but especially the necessity for your sitter to have experience sitting for people working with salvia. It can produce some pretty unexpected results and if you leave yourself in the hands of someone that won't know what to do, you can find yourself in a bad situation.

Apart from those, it's always worth mentioning the usual suspects, such as having a proper intent, being in a good setting, and never disrespecting the medicine.

As you might have noticed while watching those videos, being exceptionally deep in the world of Salvia doesn't prevent you from freely moving your body. This logically leads to the conclusion that even with a sitter, you shouldn't work with Salvia while in a setting that would expose you to any heights, deep water or fire at all, for obvious reasons.

Safe travels!

Nydex put it well.

It's generally safe, but if you take it while driving or accidentally wander into traffic or off a lake dock, it isn't.

Some people don't enjoy Salvia.

If you find yourself uncomfortable on it you may not feel safe even if you are. Comfort can be an important part of feeling safe.

Yeah, I didn't mention anything about traffic because I think it's obvious enough not to actively participate in traffic while under the influence. I'd hope people on this platform are smart enough to know this is a big no.

Thanks Guys , it seems to be a rather strange compound , i'm not sure i want to do it ...

I've heard a guy coming out of Salvia saying he spent 6 months under the ocean , having a life down there with a girlfriend and friends , he couldn't breath air when he got out of it , he needed water to be able to breath for a minute or two !

I’ll only add one thing to what other people have said:

You can randomly start running, scream, fall over, &c. when a powerful breakthrough occurs (usually happens quickly with 60-80x). Find a soft grassy field and a strong sitter if you’re attempting to take it to that level. Also smoke it while sitting, and hand the bowl to someone after you hit it. I have seen people fall directly forward—without even trying to brace themselves—and smack their face into the ground. One time the bowl sent embers everywhere after this person fell.

Salvia can be strong, so take it somewhat seriously. But, it can also be weak and manageable if you lightly puff on 5-10x; it really depends on how you approach it and how much experience you have with gauging the effects.

My experience is that smoking salvia extract produces very bizarre experiences, which are not very valuable and are most suitable for creating crazy Youtube videos.
If you want to have meaningful entheogenic experience, chew some leaves.
It is totally different experience than smoking it.

This has been my indirect observation as well. It is no wonder that the indigenous people that have worked with this medicine for so many years quid it instead of smoking it - it's not that they lack the know-how to make it into a smokable form. If they believe this is the best way to work with it, then that's where I'd put my money.

Interesting ! Thanks @doubledog ... So , it seems like chewing is kind of safer ... I guess I'll try to chew 10 or 20X to start with ... X60 , or 80 seems pretty hazardous it seems !

Yes, chewing is definitely safer, experience is pretty mild, you'll definitely not loose control of yourself and your surrounding. It is little bit similar to medium dose of mescaline.
Chewing extracts is not the same as chewing leaves - something in leaves helps with sublingual absorption. It is still not fully known (at least in my knowledge) what is it and how to achieve consistent results with extracts.
You should try and see for yourself, maybe it will work.

While smoking salvia does produce bizarre experiences, they have been life changing for me. Every breakthrough won't necessarily be profound, but sometimes taking a short walk in the forest is simultaneously more confusing and insightful than taking a long walk in a familiar neighborhood.

Even though I have grown to appreciate quidding fresh leaves, I find comparing the two methods of consumption to be ill-fitting. They are related in feeling, not intensity, depth, or usefulness.

As for safety, everyone can make the decision to smoke salvia in a safe setting. I didn't when I first used it—there was little information available at that time—but the internet has taught us enough at this point. If someone can't get to a remote grassy field with a capable sitter then they probably shouldn't be trying to break through with 60-80x.
