Ms. Munki
Rising Star
I was so intrigued by my first journey that I wanted to return. After having faced the fear of losing control and letting go, I felt excited to go back and explore. Usually, when listening to someone talk about their journeys, they speak of wondrous places, profound discoveries, and deep, deep revelations. So going into my second journey, I knew it meant going deeper into the unknown and even perhaps going deeper into my fears. Either way, I knew that having another journey meant having another profound experience.
Feeling so compelled to go again, I prepared. And like last time, I was lying in bed, meditating, clearing the space in my mind. Once I was ready, I inhaled, exhaled, and repeated a couple of times. And before I rested my head back down, I saw a pinwheel of colors.
Unlike my last journey, I wasn’t seeing any shapes. This was more about the color, less about the shape. The colors seemed to be spinning and blending. I saw a pinwheel of colors. And after a little while, the pinwheel turned into a sort of fractal pattern. Then all of the sudden the spinning slowed down and eventually stopped. At this point, I realized this isn’t a pinwheel, this is the top of a circus tent!
So my focus shifted. I saw the top of the inside of the circus tent with its vibrant colors, and my eyes moved down to the center of the ring. It was a regular old circus ring surrounded by bleachers. There was hay on the ground, and there was some stuff in the background… hoops, boxes, and other circus paraphernalia. I just so happened to be sitting in the bleachers alone. I looked around. Yup… just me. Strange, yes, but I sensed it was a convivial atmosphere.
Before I could ask myself “what am I doing here?” out came a little monkey! *(I’ll point out now that 3 years ago, my bf began calling me “monkey” and the monkey moniker stuck.) The monkey marched out to the center of the ring, chest puffed out. Sporting a red jacket and a red cone party hat with a little fuzzy ball on top, he waved at me and smiled. As soon as he waved, I felt the laughter bubbling out. And once I let out the first “hahaha,” I couldn’t stop.
The little monkey began doing a jazzy dance with jazz hands and flopping his feet around. The laughter poured out of me. Is this some kind of joke? Because if it is, it’s hilarious! This little monkey continued dancing around and waving at me. I laughed hysterically, tears streaming from my eyes. And then the monkey hopped on a shiny red mini-bicycle. This bicycle was the same red mini-bicycle I had as a child! It was the bike on which I learned how to ride (no more training wheels!). He rode around, jovially, in circles and each time he passed me, he looked at me and waved. I was still laughing… so hard, I almost couldn’t breathe!
The monkey never said a word to me, but his delightful demeanor was all it took to send me into an avalanche of laughter. I’m not sure exactly how long I was out, somewhere around 5 minutes from what I was told. But I never stopped laughing the entire time. And when I came back, I opened my eyes with laughter and tears of joy still coming out of me. Afterwards, my bf (who was sitting with me) told me that my contagious laughter made him laugh hysterically during my journey as well! What a journey! I’m not exactly sure of the message I was to take from this, but it was another great experience on the other side.
Anyone else experience such a prolific fit of laughter during a journey?
