Swim is considering using DCM for a couple 500G MHRB extractions, or a single 1kG extraction.
He would like to avoid having to filter tons of basified ground plant matter. That being said, wouldnt it be convienant to have something in which:
-there was a large enough opening for which to easily dump plant matter into
-it was built out of HDPE 2 plastic, something unreactive that should withstand heat, pH and the chems used
-it was solid enough to withstand some light agitation without leaking
-it was able to be easily and safely modified into a seperation funnel of sorts so as to make life easy when it came time to separate the BOTTOM layer from the top aqueous layer.
A glass sep funnel... out of the question, too expensive and swim worries of glass etching etc with the high base
so he has been looking at HDPE carboys, water coolers, and even gas containers.
Many of these can be equipped with spigots, or possibly an attachment could be screwed on when it came time to separate: he thinks he could attach a nozzle, to the nozzle a bit of clear hose (to see when he reaches the aqueous layer) and at the end a clamp to stop the separation process when needed.
He thinks that knowing the volume of DCM added would make it easier for him to drain the bulk of it into one container, and then when he realizes he is getting close to the end, he could switch to another and finish the separation 'just in case' he drains off too much, that way he has smaller volume of liquids to work with if he has to go back and do something to clean up.
Any ideas or concearns regarding this?
