Hi All,
Swim is having issues with a lazyman tek, any help would be appreciated.
Approx 300g shredded bark was ground using a herb grinder to produce a mixture of powder and stringy roughage in a ratio of approx 3:10
6 tablespoons of NaOH were stirred into one litre of de-ionised water which was then added to the ground bark in a large mixing bowl as per lazyman tek. The mixture was stirred for 15-20 minutes and 500ml of Ronsonol brand naptha was added and the mixture stirred again for around 30 minutes. No noticeable emulsion was formed.
The mixture was then allowed to stand for an hour and the naptha removed and placed in the freezer. The naptha was dark yellow in colour, a small amount of basified solution accidentally was transferred with the naptha however this was removed using a pipette.
The naptha was left in the freezer overnight and in the morning had gone a misty white colour, and a few small white crystals had formed. The majority of the misty naptha was drawn off leaving a small amount to evaporate. The naptha was added again to the basified root bark.
The final result of the first pull is a few splats of off white paste with a far lower yield than swim has experienced on a previous extractions using a different tek and different material (pure powdered mhrb).
What is the reason for the low yield? Unfortunately I have no means of weighing it at present but it is less white and there is visibly much less of it.
Would swim be better doing an evap rather than a freeze precipitation? Couldn’t help but wonder if the reason the yellow naptha had gone milky when frozen was because much of the dmt was suspended in the fats in some way?
In addition swim is concerned that a very small amount of basified solution could have remained in the evap and is causing the off white colouration of the crystals, could this be so?
Also if swim has done anything critically wrong in any way then please tell swim!
