so swim has seen a wide variety of results in the spice kitchen. from white to yellow to orange, red, green, grey and rosey pink.
now alot of this can be explained me thinkes by contams and or things falling into the evap dish while its drying.

so my question is what are things to look out for in your expereince.

all the green spice swim found was all thrown away just due to the overall scustyness of it. but as far as what i have seen passed around out side swim kitchen its mostly waxy orange crumbly gunk. now swim have come out with this a few times. but swim just recrystelise it in that case and try to get it better the next go around.

somthing very weird happened to swim a week or so ago. the enicial glass pan yeilded a good amount of very white shards. with some yellow and orangy murky spots. however, several fruit flys had landed in the pan overnight, crystelising there remains into the garden of evaporated spice. swim tryed to get them all out and recrystelise but the first round resulted in orange waxy goo... back in the shot glass for another go
this time it was looking great. pure white geometric crystels on top of a bit of black dusty slag, and just a wee bit of naptha at the top.
however swim found seperating the white from the dust and bug parts to be much harder then expected. so what swim ended up with after choping it and drying it was a grey powder. it did not look that great

back in the shot glass
one more go

this time it came out of the freezer looking rosy red almost and chalky. its still in the freezer iv been hesitent to mess with it again.....

so

color, contams, ect

expereince would be greatly gratefuly apreciated :D

thanks!

Just dissolve it in warm naphtha and pour it through a good quality filter to get rid of most of that yucky crap and then freeze precipitate it again. I'm getting nauseated just thinking about those bug parts in the spice...yuck!!!!

Yes, I think notapillow knows how to clean up the material.

The real interesting part of the question (to me) is the fact that a material which previously had been recrystallizing white with yellow tones, after further recrystallization came out rosey! I know the Merck Index reports a range of colors for the pure material, but I'd always assumed this was due to trace impurities (consistent with the wide melting point ranges reported).

Is it possible that DMT could come out a different color as a result of a different crystalline isoform? I'm at a loss as to what trace impurity could account for a rosy tint in this case.

indeed it bafeled me too what im thinking swim might do is combining a bit of yelow not so great stuff in with the rosy stuff and seeing what happens a 4th go around in the freezer
might just get lucky 😉

the thought did actualy cross mmy mind that swim may have mistacinly made a hyper insectoid batch of dmt that enhances that side of the expereince.... we shall see i guess

so
yellow?
what do you think causes spice to be yellow?
just plant fats and gunk?

yellow seems to be the most comon color to pop up in swim's pan

after white that is

Yellow can be from plant fats and gunk, but it can also be from oxidation. A carbonate wash of the nonpolar solvent gets rid of some yellow discoloration, as well as any residual lye (this is a piece of cake with a sep. funnel).

Also, you can turn white spice yellow by putting it in a waterproof vial and running hot water over it for a minute or two.
