Like Breathing Metal

SWIM has been wanting to type up reports of his first few experiences, but hasn't simply from being a little lazy and somewhat tired of discussing it all with his wife a few times already. SWIM really wasn't wanting to have his first experience report here to be a crappy post on complete FAIL either, but he insists on saying something about this for a warning. Or just for the lulz, because.. wow. lol

SWIM made a machine today. Drilled a hole in the bottom of a bottle, got some clean steel mesh, and -thought- he had scorched the mesh enough. Using a jet lighter, he -thought- he got every inch of this mesh red hot and cleaned of all the metallic nasty smoke. Excited to be smoking from something other than tinfoil this time, he neatly stuffed the mesh into the neck of the bottle, carefully melted a low amount of spice for testing, and got ready to take a hit.

The bottle almost instantly filled with white smoke upon heating. "Wow! This really does work better, so much smoke from so little spice!" As SWIM inhaled, he realized he had made a terrible mistake. Completely overpowering the light taste of mothballs was a horrible, tongue tingling metal taste. He nearly threw the bottle down and coughed out the deadly tasting fume, alerting his wife to turn around, likely scared that he had done himself in. SWIM jumped up, still coughing, walking and stretching to move the lungs and anything harmful that could have just been sucked into them. A futile effort had the fumes been as toxic as they smelled, but it made SWIM feel a little better.

As if forgetting that spice had indeed been involved, SWIM started to feel "the fear." SWIM felt like he was going to panic but realized everything with any sort of fine lines or patterns taking on that familiar oil shimmer. He coughed and spit a few more times into the bathroom sink before returning to the living room. Telling his wife he was okay and didn't feel any ill effects other that aggravated lungs, he sat on the couch and let the tease of spice drift out from his mind.

After a while, he read a little more and decided that the metal hadn't been fully burned. Sure enough, applying a lot of heat and a final bath in burning alcohol, then jet torching all over again did the trick and no more smoke comes from the mesh. This was a non-soaped mesh by the way. So anyone else that is wanting to make a machine.. if you think you've burned the metal enough, do it again, then again.

swim gets those little mesh pipe screens and rolls them up into balls - like a ball made from 5 works well - in any spice pipe

Thanks Phlux-, SWIM will remember that. SWIM had bought little mesh screens for dishwasher traps. Blehhhhhh.
