How are you dreamers doing today?
SWIM has been reading about dmt and extracting for a couple of years and finally decided to put his knowledge to practice.

Here's what he has done so far:

Added 50 g NaOH to 300 cc water in a canning jar.
Mixed 50 g pre-powdered MHRB into the basified solution.
Let the mixture sit for 24 hours, stirring occasionally.
Add 75 cc VM&P Naptha.
Stir and shake several times throughout 24 hour period and storing in a warm place.
~40 cc of bright yellow solvent was removed.

SWIM put the solvent in a super cold meat freezer and sees many yellow and white crystals floating about :). Swim was hoping that the crystals would stick to the glass so that he could pour the naptha back into the basified solution, but most of the crystals are floating! What can swim do to save the naptha and keep the crystals? Would a coffee filter work?

I'd only use a coffee filter if I have a very large extraction that I don't mind losing a bit of, especially as it can be recovered.

Usually if things arent looking too solid I melt the spice back in, evaporate some of the solvent and then back in the freezer.

Spice tends to stick together when it's got less places to run.

you can use a coffee filter and then soak it in acetone to pull anything out..and the evaporate the acetone

It's been in the freezer for around 20 hours. If swim evaporates any solvent there will be a very thin layer left. Would a significant amount of spice get lost in the filter?

There's not a very thick layer of solvent, maybe half a cm in a 1/2 pint jar. Do I need to evap given the small amount? It can't be more than 50 cc of naptha.

In my experience a coffe filter works just fine, the naphta seeps through quickly and the crystals hardly have enough time to redissolve. If you're worried about losses just evaporate the filtrate and maybe wash the filter but I doubt it's worth the effort...

I'm surprised it worked so well using only 300 ml of water.

The MHRB and water solution is a little sludgy. Swim believes the naptha doesn't mix well enough with just swirling, so he shakes with no emulsions due to the high lye concentration.

Yeah.
How much naphtha was SWIY roughly pulling off?
My friend found a lot of naphtha never returned to the top if using little water. If he put 100ml naphtha in he was getting roughly 60ml back.
Interested to see final yield with this.

My pet parrot collected the crystals from the first pull. Half of it is actual xtal formation, but there's also a pool of wet/oily yellow goo. Will the goo eventually evaporate and form crystals or should my parrot just throw it back into the solvent? This looks decent for just 1 pull of 50 g of MHRB but I have no previous pulls to judge from. Another jar is in the freezer now...can't wait.

My guess on the yield so far is .05-.1 g...

Shocked its that yellow already... usually SWIMs look like that on pull 10-15 after a month of soaking in lye.

Honestly you need to add more water. For 50g of powdered bark, you should have at least 500ml of water. SWIM says he uses 75g bark(blended nicely) 75-100g Lye 750mL of water. Works like a charm. SWIm also over-naptha's to make pulls easier. While this does create the need to do more pulls, it helps prevent getting shit in the baster. The Pics are not bad TBH. SWIM has been pulling from the same 75g of bark for over a month now and quite happy with the product.

The first pull yielded 80 mg of crystals no goo, with just 12 hours in the freezer. Swim combined the solvent from the first pull with some more solvent out of the MHRB jar and evaporated to 1/2 original volume, around 75ml. This pull is in the freezer right now for 24 hours. How does swim get more white crystals? He only sees a few.

swix, the jar sits in a tub of warm water. Will more white crystals precipitate earlier this way? while the yellow spice comes later?

Swim and his friend tried 40 mg each tonight. interesting stuff..

ok, the second pull yielded .1 g of xtals...but the crystals are half oil. it's hard to explain. Imagine a droplet of oil with crystals sticking to it on the whole surface area, surrounding it. This makes swim's scraping and collecting a seriously sticky situation. How can he get this yellow goo to stay in the solvent?

swim's theory: there is so much lye that it not only extracts the spice, but unwanted yellow goo too. should he try to use more water next time?

edit: just reread xtacy's post and he answered my friend's question exactly. he said he will add more water to the next batch and will return with the results.
