Maoi and kratom

I have a question thoughts on Kratom mixed with Maoi?
I have a friend that takes daily doses of kratom and I’m curious about if it has any side effects taken 24 hours apart from last dose of kratom?

Hey, definitely not an expert on this. I also use kratom pretty often and felt I should try and look into it. To my understanding taking multiple substances that increase serotonin can lead to serotonin syndrome. It seems pretty established MAOIs can cause serotonin syndrome with other drugs. Kratom however, doesn’t see to have conclusive results on how exactly it effects serotonin. It does seem as though Kratom also increases serotonin and should not be combined with other serotonin increasing drugs.

As for the 24 hour wait. Most of the sources I looked at gave Kratom a half life of 24 hours. So after 24 hours you still have half the Kratom in your body. This can be very different for regular users though.

Sorry I don’t have a more clear answer. I do know that people that take SSRIs should wait about a week after stopping to take LSD to be cautious. This is the only reference I have for how long you should wait.

Personally I would wait a week before taking any MAOIs. This is based on quite a few assumptions and could definitely be overly cautious.
