Mass Spectrometer

Migrated topic.
thought that might be the case. what's the cheapest you can realistically purchase one for?

and my previous questions? any ideas?

i've seen them for $2000-$200,000, including the workstation (computer with software to control the instrument), on e.bay. you'll also need a roughing (aka backing pump) pump, a rotary vane vacuum pump used inline to supplement the turbomolecular pump inside the mass spec. these can run you anywhere from $200-$5000. you'll also need to consider
inert gas suppies, like tanks filled with ultra-high purity nitrogen (99.99999% pure...5 nines following the decimal, very important). reagents should be of HPLC-grade purity.

as you can see, it's not a cheap endeavor; if you pursue it, consider starting a legitimate business to cover the costs.

ok so purchasing one is not happening :(

do you guys know if by any chance their are labs you can send stuff to get tested?

Ecstasydata.org or energycontrol.org are both good.

Ecstasydata is a bit more restricted in what it can release about samples & a bit more costly but is u.s. Based & accepts cash payments anonymously through the mail.

Energy control is in spain & only accepts bitcoin, but can quantify samples. They are cheaper as well.

ultra-high purity N2? it has to be grade 5.
anything lower will throw the detector out of calibration.
these machines are extremely sensitive.

Not for spectra, perfect for a schlenk line though.
