I saw this on FB the other day. I reckon this will bring us closer to full-species enLIGHTenment as a logical progression from the European enlightenment. 
I like how they mentioned that there is no practical reason for doing this except for intellectual value. Tells me there is real science at work here.

Granted that these experiments would be producing matter in the crudest sense by simply generating electrons from photons, but I imagine in the future that the technology could be refined for applications like 3D printing without the prior need of plastics or whatever material the printer is using. It would give a whole new meaning to "laser printer".
