Measuring environment of user during experience

Migrated topic.

SoulCrushingBass

Keeper of the spice
I have found nothing I am curious of concerning this post. So I ask you for help and input my fellow humans.

Measuring as many conditions of the immediate area of an ayahuasca or dmt user during the experience. Things in the nature of Random event generators recorded to pc, Voltage detectors, anything to detect the possibility of changes in the environment that may be caused by the dmt experience. Geiger counters, and others, there are many variables I cannot bring to mind at this moment.

I have a Mindlamp, which uses a r.e.g. to change colors, by intention. It flickers and does weird things when I vaporize, which is not programmed to flicker. I have a voltage detector that you would use to know if a wire is energized in your home, that has to be within inches of 115v ac, which beeps within 3 feet of a neon sign transformer, which I have not experimented with on spice yet, I keep forgetting to bring it home from work.

I'm curious if anyone has tried, or heard of measuring any possible mind-world interactions / distortions from the mind of one on dmt or other psy's for that matter.

Peace

I've thought about this alot myself.

so many things to monitor including things in ultraviolet, infared spectrums.

had a random thought about creating a magnetic field and looking at any changes or disturbances to it during a journey.

I've wondered about this as well, but I haven't performed any serious experiment so far... actually, I am still trying to get acquainted with the experience itself - so introducing additional elements in the picture is out of the question atm.

Just checked this Mindlamp thingy (awesome toy, btw, SoulCrushingBass) and it will reportedly react to environment, also thoughts and intent of the user, so it should indeed be affected by a psychedelic experience. However, you cannot obtain measurings from it other than the color variation, so as you suggest it doesn't look like a conclusive tool.

I guess the easiest thing to measure would be electromagnetic field. The tricky bit with measuring EMF, though, is that requires a different type of device depending on the frequency range you intend to explore... you could use a gauss meter for low frequencies (up to 100 KHz) or a Radio Frequency EMF meter (useful in the MHz - GHz range). Even an old AM or FM radio, tuned in a low-noise reception frequency, could be in theory used to register interferences in that band, that would be translated into sound for a helpful sitter to take notes or record.

So, if one wanted to make an extensive listening for EMF alterations during a DMT experience, I guess that would require several devices - properly tested, calibrated and previously used in the smoalking spot, with exactly the same set (same electric activity, radio, cellphones, appliances, etc.)

I am not aware of serious research done with this. It sure deserves a shot.

Psyleron, who makes the mind lamp, also makes something I've yet to acquire, the reg-1, a USB interfaced random event generator that graphs results and has many cool features. It is very interesting idea to me considering that people have shared visions and telepathy, and the stories of healing and a mounting collection of stories dealing with mind-matter interactions under the power of dmt.

Who knows, if all the "signals" can be recorded, then MAYBE they can be replicated externally to give the experience, making not only a legal, but also more controllable experience. Or just my imagination being overactive.

I don't want to go [offtopic] and I have no idea whether anyone else will contribute to the thread or not, but I have to say I am really enjoying the psyleron site, and I regret not having 500 spare $ to purchase both.

Plus the synctxt online service they have is something I am definitely going to try. So thank you for this.

Well... IMHO i don´t think that you change the environment itself by going on a journey. I don´t see any point in that.

But if you want to monitor your environment pretty cheap with a sensor network. I would recomend an arduino. ( arduino.cc ) you can easily build electronics with it on your own. You just need a little bit of programming skills (not that much) and a basic understanding of electronics.
The arduino is based on a Atmel chip, which delivers build in Analog to Digital converters. You can use them to read nearly any sensor you could imagine.

On the other side you either need a pc and transmit the sensordata via USB / RS232 and graph it on the pc, or you can connect a SD Card to the arduino and record that data on the SD (connecting to pc is a lot easier).

You could even build a "direct feedback" function with it, connect some LED´s and change the color of your lighting with changed sensor values :)

I used a arduino to track the temperature and humidity of one of my rooms here, i recorded it to SD-Card and generated graphs via RRDTool, it worked pretty well.

I think interesing sensor would be sensors that are connected to your body. Like resistance of your skin (sweat), breathing volume / frequence, heartbeat frequency, oxygen saturation of blood or Brainwaves. One could a a simple trigger as a additional chanel and press that trigegr if he experiences intersting journey parts. Afterwards one could look at other sensor readings that happened while being in that part.

there is a fairly common anecdote about the grateful dead noticing that their speakers got louder when someone on DMT would stand next to them.

also tons of reports of electronics like lights going semi-haywire around a dmt-user. even reported by sober trip-sitters.

just because something sounds crazy doesn't mean we should discount it off-hand...
not that we should accept it either..

True. Who knows what to believe or discard. Many things we accept as every day were strange at one time. Honestly who knows what's real or not. There's only a few things I know. I've experienced some unexplainable things, I can't stop wondering about things we don't now, and dmt is powerful enough that I can't intellectually overcome the embedded fear of the unknown to smoke "casually" in a sense to gather the amount of data I wish I could.

But, it would be a step in the right direction to be ready to observe and record anything that might really be happening. Like I stated in the beginning, I can't find anything of people doing this. Of all the studies, the only observation I've found has dealt with the mental and immediate physical state of volunteers, for their safety. Not that everything can be captured, like dreams, thoughts, ect, but that doesn't mean one shouldn't be looking for it. Regular stuff is usually boring. Now, something that is so far the safest way to have the most intense moment of a persons life, that is worth attention.

Many may think its all in your head, just your brain on "drugs". But there are stories of weird shit that has really happened in the real world seen by others because of what is happening to a brain "on drugs". It's just that no one usually would even think of monitoring the "ether" incase something can be found.

Why not try?
