Looking at performing Phlux's tek soon, and was wondering if anyone knew if muriatic acid could be substituted for Hydrochloric acid (I have a large quantity of the former). And, if not, where Hydrochloric acid is readily available (in Canada/quebec ideally, or alternately, a general source). There is a lab supply store not too far from me, but they are VERY expensive. Are there any commercial uses for Hydrochloric acid? Some that might lead to ideal and inconspicuous sources?

thanks,

It's the same thing :)

Here in the UK we say "Spirit of salts". Muriatic acid is the swimming pool lingo.

Muriatic acid IS Hcl? If I could kiss you, soulfood, you'd be a Wetter Whale than What you Were!!:)

Not that i doubted, but to allay anyone else's doubtful spirit:

"Hydrochloric acid is a solution of hydrogen chloride (HCl) in water, that is a highly corrosive, strong mineral acid with many industrial uses. It is found naturally in gastric acid.

Historically called muriatic acid or spirits of salt, hydrochloric acid was produced from vitriol and common salt. "
