mhrb Jungle spice?? Dangerous Alkaloids?

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post for extraction help, but here i go.

Swims first extraction went well and produced nice fluffy white crystals. Using high grade VM&P naptha. unfortunately circumstances have changed and for swims second extraction a cheap light distillate "paint thinner" substitute was used. Swim was very careful when decanting the "naptha" and no more then a few specks of basified mix made there way into the final product. with that said the "naptha" was a deep yellow-brown colour prior to freeze precipitating and it appears swim pulled a large amount of organic alkaloids form the mhrb.

This organic goo dried out to form a kind of tacky paste, specked with little yellowish crystals and smells strongly of dmt (pic 1).A small portion of this was goo was dissolved in acetone and left to evaporate. It produced a slightly clearer goo...kinda looked like dark honey oil. After a day or two this honey oil/alkaloid goo started to dry out and crystallize (pic 2). I attached i couple of pictures below to better explain, but swim is not sure how to proceed from here. The only solvents swim has available are acetone, and the cheap "naptha" wannabe.

Is is possible that the basified mix somehow was carried into the solvent? or would this all just be organic alkaloids from the mhrb? if so is there any dangerous alkaloids that may have been pulled as well or could this be cleaned up and smoked?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

How are you separating the solvent from the basic mixture? Generally, it is much better to use a precise method such as a glass syringe or turkey baster to siphon the solvent off the top, rather than pouring the solvent. It should be possible to separate them completely without any contamination at all this way.

As long as you haven't carried over any basic mixture with your solvent, it should be fairly safe to consume the resulting goo. It is probably mostly DMT or DMT N-oxide. I think that the solvent you used might have pulled some extra stuff that is normally insoluble in naphtha, so it might be worth taking your goo and doing a FASA purification with it. Acquire some fumaric acid, then make a solution in acetone with 0.4g per gram of goo. Add this to an acetone solution of your goo and the DMT will precipitate as crystalline DMT fumarate. Let this settle and then pour off the acetone. If the crystals are sticky, add some acetone, mix it around, then pour it out to remove any remaining fumaric acid. You can then leave the DMT fumarate as-is for long-term storage or do a simple STB extraction on the fumarate to recover DMT freebase (your naphtha substitute is ok for this).

This is what is worrying me about my first extraction, accidently getting basified mix in it.

I recently got something similar in one of my extractions, i used a real wide mouth jar, probably 8 in or so in diameter, and got a light paste- orange solid that was real smooth in texture. I did a melt test and it melted quickly and smelt of DMT, and was not resoluble in naptha, and only melted but didnt dissolve in water.

I asked many people and we came to the conclusion that it was probably NMT mixed with plant fats, possibly a little DMT in it. It also burned my tongue when i placed it on there. But, at least the way i did it, we determined it wasn't a base contamination.

I tried smoking a little bit of it and got a slight weird feeling of it, but it didn't taste good at all so i didn't risk any more of it. I ended up just tossing the stuff because it was questionable and i didn't want to go through a bunch of other processes to make it more safe to consume. The DMT crystals i got out of that same pull were very nice though. Hope this helps you a little bit!

Performing a sodium carbonate wash or a recrystallization step leaves virtually no chance of sodium hydroxide contamination.

EDIT: The boiling point of DMT is somewhere around 360°-380°C, whereas the boiling point of sodium hydroxide is closer to 1,388 °C (2530°F). Using any of the common methods for vaporizing DMT, I doubt a person could smoke/vaporize lye even if they tried. The temperature in the bowl/chamber is simply not hot enough.

Hopefull, it's a lot more likely that you just burned that spice. This would create some pretty harsh smoke that would definitely not feel too good in your lungs.

I transferred the naptha using a glass turkey baster, as well as a 2 ml transfer pipette. So as long as nothing harmful was extracted along with the plant matter, and carried over with the naphtha i should have no or at least negligible amounts of bassifed mix in my final product.

Could it be used to infuse leaf using this goo/ paste? I was hoping to make a changa blend using aya vine and dream herb. Could I dissolve as much of the product as possible in acetone, assuming its DMT/DMT N-oxide + other alkolids, and make a decent changa? Or would it be advisable to take the safe route and precipitate any remaining DMT with the FASA method and proceed with the changa from there?

Yea that is what prolly happened but the spice forsure had something bad in it and it looked like lye but not sure. When I vaped the spice it smelt really weird and tasted super super chemically. Beyond normal dmt taste. It also gave me a horribly painful high. My head was throbbing with pain and I had minimal dmt effects. I had a head ache for the next 3 days. I don't know what was in it but it was not good. I actually felt stupider for the next week.
