MHRB seized by Canada Customs... just a heads up for fellow Canucks!

Fellow Canadians, it is with great sadness that I must inform you that Canada Customs is seizing powdered MHRB. Anything clearing in Mississauga, ON (east coast).

On the seizure form it says :

Description of goods and/or conveyance:
4.6kg Dimethyltriptamine (DMT)
Inventory #: 'the tracking number'
Seizure #: 'the govt case #'

You have 90 days to plead your case to the Minister. Etc...

Items may clear on the west coast, but it's probably just a mater of time before the tyrannical police state nature of the east becomes standard practice of the west. Be warned... order whole bark ;)

Yeah, that is very sad. I don't believe you have anything to lose by pursuing this, unless you admit you ordered 4.6kg of dimethyltriptamine. I say don't let them get away with that false claim. You ordered mimosa hostilis and you don't know what dmt is. Whether they believe you know what dmt is or not, isn't the point. The point is, that's not 4.6kg of dmt!!! Maybe correct them on that falseness. Or maybe just say that while you accept that the product will seized because it contains an illlegal substance you didn't know about, however...... IT'S NOT 4KG DMT!!!! Or, you could just let it go.

edit: no screw that, forget what I said. Don't say you accept that your mimosa will be seized because you didn't know it contains a scheduled drug. If you're going to allow them to seize it without contest, then don't say anything. As fractal said, get them to prove that mimosa is illegal, or they should release your package. .... or you could just let it go. There's also the possibility that they can basically just do whatever they want because who's going to stop them?
 
is this really anything new? Where did you order from? If it is mimosahostilis.com or whatever I think it is obvious that it is going to bring unwanted attention. People have randomly had bark seized for a long time here and there, so I am skeptical of this being some new protocall..I wonder if CS mimosa would make it through on the east coast? Ive never had a problem with celestial. Is this only with powdered bark and not whole bark they do this?..why the hell cant vendors just lable the stuff "logwood"? Ive had "logwood" mimosa sent to me before.

If they are opening your package and seizing it I would seriousily reconcider the vendor choice before jumping to other conclusions..is it openly stated on the package that it contain "mimosa hostilis"?

Also, as far as I know we are NOT the USA..our laws are also not so backwards as in the USA in some reguards. As far as I know mimosa is NOT illegal here is it is in the US. US laws are different, in canada DMT is illegal but not all plants containing it are illegal..that is a US law from what I understand. For them to seize your mimosa is illegal until they can prove the plant itself is scheduled.
 
I'm from mississauga too. Just to be safe can someone please recommend a new vendor that is slightly more inconspicuous?
 
I only have 1100g of mimosa left, which is alot but it is important to me I am ordering more in september..I am in vancouver thought so west coast. I will report back on how it goes when I do order. I do think though that I will be saving the magority or my mimosa now for ayahuasca becasue if it is going to become harder to get I would rather been making the most of it. My mimosa trees are doing very well at the moment though..and I wish more people here were growing the plant becasue it is important for it to be here in the future.

I really really do not want to ever not have access to mimosa.
 
^You recommended CS to me and they worked out very well, but this was already after I placed the order that got nicked. The US is getting tougher as well and they'll probably be doing whole bark only soon too, which is fine by me. I will probably only order from CS in the future anyways. The extra cost for shipping got it here fast!

From personal past experience I do know that east coast customs is worse than west, I have had problems with them before with other clearance delays for all kinds of things, so I always try to get stuff shipped via air so it clears in the west, so I do take some responsibility on my laziness (and cheapness) allowing regular shipping.

Still, from now on I'll probably just get whole bark. It's not like a coffee grinder is really a step that I can't bear to add to the ritual :)
 
yes I am gettign whole bark as well..both to avoid raising eyebrows and for longer storage. Even if they did get real militant about it..I would bet that mimosa will always be available..someone outside of the US etc will still be willing to ship it around the world. Vendors should be more lowkey though I feel. Some vendors are out to just make money trying to sell people "DMT" and they ruin it for everyone else. A package labled logwood or something is never going to be as heaty as one that says MIMOSA HOSTILIS etc right in big letters.

The east coast does seem somewhat more conservative.

There are still vendors inside canada as well..but very $$..One vendor is a 10 minutes bus ride from me and I get buy mimosa in person..but at 10x the price of most online vendors it seems pointless.
 
Up until early 2011 powdered rootbark from Brazil was getting through to Canada just fine, possibly from the same vendor. Lately, it seems more and more customs around the world are seizing it. Following this trend, I wouldn't be surprised if they come up with a law that would ban importing most of the plants containing scheduled substances in the near future, at least in the form that could be considered 'for preparation' and such. Like dried or powdered.

When you get to day ~40 just check your mailbox for the seizure notice. For those that get a seizure notice here is some info (that they don't provide in the notice) to get you started on filing a review with the Minster to appeal. You have 90 days to file a review, and 40+ days are already up due to their lag in sending you the notice... clever...

For any seizure in ON (Mississauga), Send review letter of intent + copy of your seizure notice to:

Oh man, I am getting nervous. CS doesn't have any shredded in stock. I want to stock up right now before this situation gets even worse. I am down to less than 100g of powdered bark and my last extraction got botched by the dreaded brown naptha sludge.
 
my order just came from CS..customs even opened it and it passed..and it was powdered rootbark. I still have not ever had even one problem with customs taking my mimosa and they always seem to open it.
 
Good to hear... looks like this may just be a "shipped from Brazil' phenomenon as I've heard from a few others that numerous packages from that origin have been seized. I may just order from CS again just to have some extra stock.
 
So just wondering if there has been an outcome to this situation? Did the mimosa get through, was there an appeal to get it, or did you just let it go?

Also, there seems to be another thread about a seizure at this Mississauga postal place. So it looks like someone who works at Missassauga doesn't like mimosa and will probably do the same thing every time mimosa passes through. Either that, or the situation has been resolved. In another thread talking about Canadian mhrb and mimosahostilis.mx, they made it sound as thought the Canadian situation has been resolved and mimosa can now pass. I don't know.

Curious though, do things only go through this customs place when ordering internationally? Can it still wind up in this Missassauga place for inspection if one orders domestically?

This whole customs issue is why I've chosen to order from only within Canada, for mimosa at least. I've had a package seized in the past, which were just ethnobotanicals, so I don't trust customs very much. They were very rude and difficult to deal with, and I didn't end up getting my package in the end, and I called and spoke to them twice. I live near Mississauga so that's the sorting facility that my orders go to when I order things internationally.

As for domestic orders, it's illegal for them to open it. They don't go through customs and they can't open domestic mail. I can't even see them having drug dogs or something like that to check unopened domestic mail orders. That's why I much prefer to get things shipped from within Canada. Very low risk.
 
Ordering domestic is the way to go if you can afford it, and we have a number of great domestic retailers, but their markups are considerably higher than US retailers, and ridiculously higher than buying direct from known wholesailers.

Then again, that piece of mind knowing that you will definitely get your order delivered may well be worth that extra cost.

Appeals with Canada Customs take months to realize an outcome...
 
My cat has in the not too distant past received a decent amount of mimosa somewhere in the central US with no problems. Is mimosa hostilis illegal in Canada?
 
no it is not illegal here..it is MORE illegal in the US(where it is actaully illegal). Here plants containing schedule 1 substances like mimosa are not banned unless specified as is the case with psilocybe mushrooms and cannabis. I revieved 2 kilos of rootbark a few weeks ago and it was even checked by customs and approved..
