milky white substance in naptha

Migrated topic.

i have a feeling that i need to evap my naptha.

After a freeze percip. If one finds minimal crystal formation on the bottom of jar
and a milky white substance lingering in the solution,
would that suggest that there is still dmt in the solution?

Actually it can be plant oils. It happens from time to time, but if it doesnt freeze prec, you dont need it. This is why when I do my pulls, I pour out the naptha and leave the jar upside down to dry and the milky whitish oils drain onto my plastic lid and never get into my spice. I just pour it all back into the solution jar and RX it up again.

I have plenty of times and its a milky white substance that never freezes. I reuse my naptha so it is no big deal, I pour it all back into my solution jar and pull again in 1-2 hrs after a few good 2-3 mins of shaking then an hour of rest.

I have this after 24 hours in the freezer.
Theres minimal and i mean Minimal crystal formation on the bottom of the jars.

If its the same situation in 24 hours time im gonna warm it up to room temp and evap the hell out of it then try again.

Freeze precipitate for 48 hours, then decant the naptha through a coffee filter. Coffee filter's dry pretty fast and aren't hard to scrape with a straight edge razor blade(do it gently).

If you still suspect there is dmt in solution you can just salt it out and evap the salt solution for pharma.

Never seen white plant oils either....I am betting that it is a colloidal of DMT....DMT xtlas so small they are just suspended in the jar. Evap 1/2 or more and next time do smaller pulls with the naphtha. Use 200mL per kilo (x4-6 times), yes it is a bit more work, but you also are not wasting a ton of naphtha and it saves a LOT of time. I can have all my spice drop out of 200mL within a few hours of putting it in the freezer...not wait 24+hours. Plus if you recycle the naphtha (200mL in freezer and 200mL in jug at all times) you actually end up getting more.

Xtacy, I think you should use less naphtha, I think you're just pouring off extremely small spice xtals, those really are not plant oils my friend.

SWIM had this same problem too. SWIM found that if he evaps it down to around 1/2 volume and sticks it back in the freezer, crystals form quite readily. SWIM thinks that this milky whiteness may indeed be colloidal dmt crystals. He has noticed that sometimes after having his naptha in the freezer for only an hour or so, it becomes milky white and then after another few hours the naptha has cleared and the bottom of the pan is covered in crystals.

Could this also be the result of a not cold enough freezer? Perhaps SWIY's freezer is only marginally cold and say 50% of the spice is fully freeze preciping, and the rest is only partially precipitating and clouding up the solution.

Also, if it were plant oils, wouldn't they either float or sink the naptha, and not hang suspended mid solution?

Just throwing out a couple thoughts, but I really don't know WTF I'm talking about... :?

I had this same issue before as well. I let it freeze precip for a day, and lo and behold it had evapped about 1/4 way, but no xtals.

I put it back in, and check on it about half way through the day, had a big hard chunky something in it. I took it out and examined it, and it was just a piece of ice. It seems that when I was opening and closing my freezer, it would let ALL the cold escape and make 'something' in there sweat. my freezer wasnt cold enough.

*.* didnt lose any though, because once I figured out wtf was going on i sent it to my deep freeze :p they precipd out into a small amount of xtals.

Use a mason jar with a lid and you won't have any ice chunks floating in your naphtha.

Also use smaller naptha pulls. 100mL per kilo of bark is about perfect. No evaps needed. You'll have to pull using that 100mL 3-4 times, but should only have to wait a few hours for full precipitation, saving countless hours of waiting and 0 evap.
