+0:00: 4g Syrian Rue: capped
+0:20 5g Chaliponga tea: 50ml
Setting: Full moon evening at an isolated beach
I took my first Chaliponga journey. I was expecting it to be very odd, having heard many reports of extremely strange and inexplicable expericnes while using this plant, and also big time nausea. I was pleased that the drink was the easiest to tolerate among all ayahuasca plants I have tried thus far. Nausea was not a factor at all in this session.
I went in to a deep trance fairly quickly. 10 minutes or so after drinking, the trance effect was strong. I was expecting it to go up and up and up and things to get weirder and weirder, but it never really did. There was a mild visual at first of a blue triangle made of fire with an eye in the middle, welcoming me to “the realm of darkness”. There was a low energy to this vision. I enjoyed this trance for a good while, but after about 45 minutes, it seemed like it wasn’t going to go beyond this trance. I also became pretty certain that nausea wasn’t going to be a factor, so I decided to get up and walk back to the non isolated beach where I could lie in sand that was a bit more comfortable.
Everything looked profound on the walk, which is not unusual for ayahuasca sessions. Once back to the main beach, I laid down in nice soft sand, closed my eyes, and hoped the trip would pick up more in intensity. Maybe it just needed more time to work? The body load felt like about 50mg of pharma, which for me isn’t enough to greatly affect my equilibrium. 3g of mimosa had a much more profound effect on body and more vertigo. This chali experience felt like a very clean body load without any unusual tremors or other body activity.
I was definitely in a dmt space, yet when I closed my eyes, there was nothing really there. It was a bit frustrating at first, and I was confused at how this was even possible. Normally, if I’m in that spice space, there’s all kinds of activity, light is exploding everywhere, visions abound, love pouring out of every atom. But in this experience, there was almost none of that. It was like dmt….. except not like dmt!!! If you can imagine a dmt headspace except no visions, that’s kind of what it was like. There was just a darkness in my head. Eventually, I decided that not much was happening in there, so I opened my eyes to watch the moon rise, while in an ayahuasca state.
Then something interesting happened. I was staring at the full moon that was rising over the trees, very much in trance, when a sudden wave of nothing hit me. It was like my mind stopped completely. As I was staring at this bright silver ball in the sky, my mind stopped, and time stopped along with it. At that point, I was viewing everything from a very detached perspective, not in particular euphoria, but more like a profound peace. Everything was still, my mind was flattened like a lake of glass. There was a deafening silence in my head that sounded like holding a sea shell to my ear.
Chaliponga has a very low energy feel to it. I can see why people would say it’s pointless to combine chali with mimosa. They say the chali would overpower the mimosa. I found it’s not really that the effects of chaliponga are more powerful than mimosa, per se, but the energies of the two are different. The low energy of the chaliponga wouldn’t allow the higher energy of the mimosa to function. The chaliponga would act like a gravity on the energy of mimosa, preventing that energy from soaring to the heights that mimosa can.
I sat in this state of no thought for a while, deeply tranced. It was nice. After a while, I decided to take a knee deep dip in the water, and meditate there in the moonshine. Once there, I started to feel what I describe as “the energy of death” surrounding the world, and my psyche. There was this deep purple light emanating everywhere. I closed my eyes and saw some death archetypes. There was an old barren tree beside a clock that was spinning out of control. The clock spun slower and slower until it came to a total stop. At that point, the tree came to life and one of its branches pointed at me. I interpreted this to mean the universe was telling me, “your time is up. The limited time you had has stopped. Now it’s time for you to die. Feel the energy of death surround you. Every living thing goes through this, and passes through this realm”. It felt like I was sinking in to a blackness.
It was a bit scary, but not severely. The energy of death was followed by a great compassion for all living things because I knew that everyone at some point is going to face this energy of death, and unlike the controlled experience I was having where I knew I wasn’t actually going to die, people who die go right in to that energy, which is far more intense than this little sample I was getting. It’s going to happen to my mother and father and everyone I know, and all the people in hospitals, and all the animals out there right now in the dark of the cold night. All will come to this point where their life energy gets sucked away, and it probably doesn’t feel good.
After meditating and trancing for a while, I came to some interesting mental states. In the stillness of mind that the chaliponga lends itself so well, I remembered what I have remembered several times before, but often only on high doses. I remembered that I am not real. I am just dreaming. What if you were on your death bed, and you realized not only that there is no afterlife…. But that your whole life never really happened at all? You imagined the whole thing. You haven’t even lived 80 years, or however many years you live. Your whole life happened in a single moment, it was a single thought that happened at the point of your death. And at that moment, you realize that you never really had a life, you are nothing but a thought, a made up thought that came from nowhere and has nowhere to go but non existence.
Your whole life, you thought you were an individual looking at the universe. But now you realize there is no separation between you and the universe…. And both are illusions. There is no you, and no universe. Both were entirely imagined. By who? No one. That’s the freaky part. There’s no one here, and nothing out there. You are entirely hollow. There’s no you to exist in a universe, and there is no universe for you to exist within. You are a free floating nothing within nothing. It’s so hard to explain, I know it sounds nutty and impossible. I cannot exactly put in to words what I am trying to explain.
So I watched the moon in a state of no mind, as I enjoyed the sound of silence. There were little thoughts on life. Any time I had a thought or idea, I would think, “no point in having an opinion. They’re all made up. Everything is just happening”. It was a very peaceful night, though hardly like nn-dmt, or mimosa, which are ecstatic and exploding with love. This was peaceful, calm, somber, with moments of darkness.
I left feeling very neutral, still feeling rather neutral actually, as I wrote this on the come down. But neutral in a good way, in a way that is like a bunch of useless thinking has ceased. I feel like my energy levels are at a nice balanced level. I’m not depressed, and I’m not overjoyed. I feel like I am going to sleep very well tonight.
I could see chaliponga being quite useful for certain purposes. If one is feeling overwhelmed and stressed out, I think chali can help level out all that stress, really focus the mind. I feel like I threw out a lot of mental garbage. It was a very focusing trip. Or, if one wants a very deep meditative state, without all the extreme mental activity of mimosa or nn-dmt pharma, then chali is your friend.
I don’t feel like I have experienced all that chaliponga has to offer, and so my future experiment will consist of a 15g dose. I did not find anything about the 5g dose to be particularly bizarre or powerful beyond an equivalent dose of mimosa. It was almost not even psychedelic, but more trance. Some have suggested I may have weak chaliponga.
