My First Cacti and Disease Help

Hey all,

I have recently went and purchased my first Cactus after many years of being lazy and saying I would do it.

When I was choosing my cactus, I chose what I thought would need the most care. Whether it looked un healthy or just needed re potting.

I must say I have no idea about caring for cactus and have been doing some reading on growing from seed and caring for your cactus over the last 2 days (When I purchased them).

The cacti I chose was a Scopulicola, Bridgesii Montrose "Penis Plant" and One unidentified Trich, Which I originally thought might be a Bridgesii but thought I might be best seeking help here.

I repotted them as soon as I got them home pretty much, I think I should have watered them first but was a bit excited lol.

The only one that seems to be in trouble is the Scopulicola.

Now, After checking on my babies in the last hour I noticed some pimple like bumps on my Scopulicola which I am really hoping is not rot. Does any one have any input in to what this could be and the best course of action? I do remember my unidentified Trich had a needle stuck in the Scop and was thinking this what caused this little out break, they didnt have the most comfortable drive home unfortunately

not exactly sure what the damage is from(possible over fertilization)- but it should heal fine and just leave some minor scarring.
keep it dry for a while and dont feed it

That sounds good hopefully it doesnt get any worse I will update if I notice anything else. I cant get a picture at the moment because it's night time where I am. But will upload some tomorrow morning. What sort of pictures would help you I.D the cactus.

The largest bump in the first picture is a root coming out. It's likely a few of those bumps are roots. Mine did this, as well, each having a couple random roots poke out of the sides. All in all, yours look a bit healthier than some of mine, and mine are doing ok.

They are hearty. From what I've read, they're much easier to kill with too much love, rather than neglect.

Ahh cool, I initialy thought it was then was not too sure. I have a ton of seeds on there way which I cant wait to sow.

Oh wow, I must do some more reading. Do you know of any book or a site that has good information on growing cactus? I heard similar advise about caring too much for your cactus.

Also I noticed on the Scop it gets a bit thinner in the middle, this part feels a lot weaker and kind of loose when squeezed towards another rib. It feels as if there is "flesh" missing as the top part os quite thick and sturdy. Would this be an indication of something?

I don't have any specifically. I mostly just googled "grow trichocereus" and other related things. I also got a fair amount of info off of this site, too. Just reading about other people's problems and the advice others gave them taught me a lot.

Just wanted to finish and update this in case someone else experiences the same thing and is completely clueless

It has gotten worse before it got better but in the last few weeks thankfully it has gotten a lot better and the cactus itself has become a lot stronger and healthier!

Where the flesh was getting all loose squishy and almost deflated like its is now rock hard and starting to bulge out and get some thickness, Lots!

From a little research I got black pustules which were caused from a spine from my bridgesii puncturing the skin of it while it was being driven home from the nursery. The black pustule can be caused from anything puncturing the skin even insects from what I have read.

The cure was to leave it alone and let it heal. It eventually scars over and heals up on its own. I continued watering once weekly as I am currently nearing the end of summer and have had very drought like whether! Needless to say I am very happy and loving caring for my cactus, would recommend it to anyone!
