I would think evolutionary design. Maybe as a way of helping the brain make conscious sense of subconscious problems at times?

This is just theory based on the assumption that evolution specifically helps a species adapt better to the environment they're surrounded by. If this holds true then there was likely a specific purpose for the DMT.

The thing that really fucks up my theory is the presence of DMT in certain plants. This would then suggest that those specific plants have a conscience.

To throw another crazy notion into the mix I'll propose that in the case of mimosa hostilis, maybe there is a sort of inter-root connection that creates a larger consciousness, a community that exists as one entity and shares "source code" throughout the community. Maybe this source code governs the spread of mimosa, trying to gain knowledge collectively, as one plant could not have so much as a single thought, as if it is simply one synapse in the brain, but the entire process together is worked through the roots by a dull flow of energy, electrical activity of some sort, to create an entire conscious mind.

My theory on mimosa hasn't been thought out too well, But what if every consciousness on the planet is part of a larger consciousness, a consciousness that is never seen usually, because breaking through isn't possible without administering a large dose to yourself or coming near death.

So maybe the release of dmt at your 49th day in the womb is your passage into the conscious community, Maybe instinct doesn't exist as we know it, but instead these instinctive decisions are governed by the subconscious, everything that has ever existed in this network of consciousness, and given a biodegradable material vessel to control, has now receded back into the world of the subconscious, which could also be seen as a spirit world, if one were to call such energies spirits.
