Hi

A friend has done a first pull on some mhrb strait to base but the naphtha is murky yellow, not just off colour, murky yellow, he did use what seems like excessive lye ... it was left to settle for some time (8 hours) but this colour hasn't changed.

when freezing out, lots of crystals have formed but it looks like something else was carried over.

should my friend just dissolve this in more warm naphtha stiring until all dissolved and then if any water compound left at the bottom, pour out the naphtha leaving water insoluble items and then refreeze the naphtha?

any helps is greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance
Peace.

Yes too much lye and heat will do this...even pull over nano particles of the mix suspended and go very dark.
A re-x, as you suggest, should clean it up.

Is your friend certain that the solvent he used for their pull is not contaminated e.g has he/she done an evaporation test on their solvent to make sure it leaves no impurities? If so then a simple re-x like cyb says should suffice. I would also look into doing a wash on your solvent before freeze precipitating your solvent.

DeMenTed: yes the naphtha is great, its her technique that is out.
