Also, there's a risk that atmospheric moisture could hydrolyse it back to DMT fairly easily and this trace of DMT could be used to argue that the entire amount of substance should be taken as the weight of DMT (viz - MHRB convictions, with the weight of bark being equated 1:1 to a weight of DMT, which has happened in a significant number of jurisdictions). This would be unfortunate, since the Boc substituent increases the mass of the product, of course.
