need Fruiting Chamber (martha) advice

Greetings budds !!!

I want to experiment with Panaeolous Cyanescens in near future and i was fondering if it is possible to build totally automatic fruiting chamber/closet/martha .. By totally automatic i mean absolute temperature/humidity/air flow control, so it can be stable and manageable all the time. Im not technological guy and this is why i need some help.

I wandering what types of humidifiers will do a job like that, what can i do to maintain the temperature (maybe there is a device?) in fruiting chamber (in place i live temp's are quite low for Pan cyans), also how to control an air flow (i guess some fans will do, but how and how many of them?)

It would be great to hear your experience's and advices:thumb_up: :)

Thank you for your time budds

Hey Alkanphel,

this is my DIY fruiting chamber:

file.php

A simple plastic box filled with water and an aquarium heater, 4 small flowerpots and a grid which I found in the cellar. For the air circulation I made 2 holes (improvement hint: place them as low above the waterlevel as possible because "CO2" is heavier than "O" ), one on each side, which are protected with 2 respiratory masks from the pharmacy. The whole setup is about 20€.

An other nice and easy DIY fruiting chamber is this one (from Fragespiel):

Just put water soaked seramis (which was pasteurized before) or expanded clay on the bottom of the box, instead of the water. The only disadvantage of this method is that you cannot regulate the temp. inside the box that easy thus it always depends on the roomtemp.. You can use a heatercable as a possible heat source.

You can find many different easy to build and solid working chambers in the internet (f.e. check shroomery), if these 2 fruiting chambers do not fit your taste.

When you want to cultivate panaeolus spicies, it is conducive to put dung and straw into the substrate:

Panaeolus Jamaican (from Pablo_Pilz)

tseuq !! Thank you for taking your time and making a comment bud !!
..and WOW , i totally love the one you made , very nice setup

May i ask you something about Pan.Cyan's ? Here it sais ( Panaeolus cyanescens ) that while fruiting the humidity needs to be lowered to around 90% .. How can i deal with it ? Also about fresh air exchange , is adding some small fans is a good idea ?

Thank you so much for the ideas

best advice "dont"

scan the forums, marthas run once, maybe twice (If lucky)
then they contam, along with the humidity equip,
thus destroying all future crops.

they are impossible to decontam.
at some point they develop a spore /bacteria load.

they sound good in theory.
in practice, they are not sustainable.

sure there are a few martha growers who claim sustained ops........
this is actually rare.
topia and shroomery have thread or 2 where the practioners are honest enough to show what REALLY happens to marthas..... one thread has several marthas wiped out with trich.

consider security also with these.
any op that cant be torn down , hidden or disquised in SECONDS,
is a sitting duck for trouble!

fact is there are better methods,
with greater yield and less mecha production.
one cannot build machines to compensate for skill/ handling.
believe me, me and my maid tried.

anne halonium , thanks for the comment , i totally appreciate your advice and think would do so.;)

Best regards !!!

lots of stuff works,
so there are many options.

im just down on marthas specifically,
because they contam and cant really be cleaned properly.
it took us a small fortune and some time to realize this ourselves.

since 1978 we have tried about everything to scale.
simplicity is key.
anything that cant be 100% cleaned , is potential trouble.

note in my threads, few parts as possible,
and bottom watering solves most humidity issues.

What are your thoughts on fruiting inside a plain tub ( like the ones you use for sab/glovebox) inside a warm closet? I'm doing a v tek right now, 1 day post innoc into rye with 16/16/16 npk boiled in. It's my 1st grow, I'm kind of a shroom noob, but have tried to be well read about it.

On a side note, have any of you used guar gum instead of agar for medium? I've read as few posts where ppl have tried, but no follow-up. There is one academic paper floating around saying it's okay, but I'd like to hear more thoughts.

I use a plastic fish aquarium from walmart, cost ~8$. I cut a piece of plexiglass to cover the top, and drilled a row of holes on all 4 sides. I covered the holes with a strip of breathable plastic bandage tape to complete the unit.

lots of containers work well.

the key here is ability to decontaminate.
almost all grow runs develops some kind of issue toward the end.
even if its just lots of water bacteria residue.

whatever you use , you should be able to bleach it down 100% after use.

never underestimate trich.
even a small residue in a martha will wipe it out.
IMO tubs of bovine offal in marthas is almost guranteed suicide!
oh , it can be done once sometimes, but few honest could claim multi crops in a martha.
those that can, have air handling and work areas beyond the typical.
now im sure someone is gonna claim they have grown in marthas trouble free for centuries.
id need to see dated pics.
everyone takes proud parent pics of a marthas first flush.
few will see pics of the 2.5 flush blanket of green.

growers tend to highlight the victories and gloss over the green parts.

once again, typical growers, cant sustain them grow after grow,
in 35 yrs i blew out more marhthas than wally world can stock.
at one point we considered them grow disposable.
im 20 yrs past that folly.
id suggest that the 2 big things that eliminated trich in my labs,
was NO marthas and using grain based subs instead of cow..........

agar is pretty easy to come by.
but if your hard pressed , i use cardboard boiled in grain water.
PC and put in small plates, handle with tweezers.

a more advanced form is BRF sprinkled on poms and PC.
see the pom pom teks for more details.

theres a common work around for everything.
just keep it simple.

never saw a grow machine, exceed a pro without a grow machine.

every time i see a grow with a machine,
i think, hmmmmmmm, lets see 3 back to back crops.

besides, everyone can explain a sealed box in a corner.
explaining a franken martha, not so easy.
always ask yourself , about contams and security in any grow system.

There are many possibilities, as others have mentioned above.
Personally, I would suggest a simple shotgun fruiting chamber: Basically a clear plastic tote with 1/4 inch holes spaced 2 inches apart drilled on all 6 sides (so including lid and bottom), filled with a couple inches of damp perlite. Raise the tote on a few bricks or something so air can get into the bottom. It is essentially self-regulating in terms of relative humidity and airflow, and a tried and true foolproof method. You can use it to fruit both PF-style cakes and bulk trays.
In my personal experience, temperature is not much of an issue when fruiting. I wouldn't bother rigging up a heater or anything. A shotgun fruiting chamber or monotub at plain room temperature will do just fine :)

^ ya that.
the stuff you can bleach or dispose of.

(personally i take a whole different grow angle,
but , the stuff above meets the need to be contam controllable and practical
and thats the point , above all ya wanna avoid contams in contraptions,
basic large plastic containers, as psilosopher offers, are hard to beat for FC's)
