Hello. I would like to introduce myself and make a comment about my interest in being a member. Though I have a chemistry degree from the '90s, I haven't used it professionally since about 2000 and often that was cookbook / bench chemistry. I understand the language and get the jist of what what I have read so far, but at this point, can't say I have a talent or deep understanding of it. I do like it and want to learn more - especially what is applicable in daily life. I am a DIY person and love personal projects of all types.

As far DMT, I have yet to try it but am currently doing the research to create my own. I tried Salvia once (and have a plenty more in my safe), shrooms 4 times, LSD once, and smoke pot occasionally. I have grown mushrooms when I had the chance and did well after several failures. I have also grown pot hydroponically, but it's been awhile too.

For me, I would like to extract my own and have an occasional spiritual experience with a little recreation here or there. If DMT is to my liking, I would doubt if I would use it but a couple times per year.

Currently I am working on a test syrian rue extraction and have plenty of the right passion flower at my disposal.

Oh, I have a simple sinicuichi extraction via sun tea going on right now.

I do have a technique I would like to share since the Syrian Rue extraction is behaving just like my Kava Kava extraction. The Rue seeds were growd so finely that the initial acid extraction would not filter through stretched t-shirt material. I have seen others have such a problem so here is my fix that worked:
a capillary action siphon: basically one end of a cloth wetted by the liquid to be moved is placed in the elevated brew cup and the other end of the wetted cloth is placed in the receiver cup.

I did this with a 1 oz Syrian Rue vinegar brew last night and woke up to find all liquid in the receiver cup with a mush in the original brew cup. I don't know exactly how long it took to move the 500 ml of liquid because it ended sometime in the night. I did try a thin strip and measured the time between drops to be 13 seconds. I tripled the cloth thickness and after a few drops roughly measured 8 seconds - though not a reliable measure. I just wanted to know if thickness increased flow - yes it did by an unknown, but decent amount.

In the receiving cup the liquid was the same color as the original brew. I am sure tiny solids moved but can't verify because some of the ground wet material accidently fell into the receiver bowl. Though I am repeating the acidificaiton step a few more times on the rue mush, I would be dumbstruck to think the harmaline products didn't move across.

Well, I hope to learn a lot and will be glad to share anything I find. I haven't joined any other site that deals in drugs and chose this one because, as the site's attitude disclaimer stated, you guys seem like a serious set of learners and teachers. I was glad to read the disclaimer.

Welcome to the nexus! A chemistry background and DIY attitude will surely suit you well here, as I'm sure you're aware. I'm currently taking the plunge into the subject and hope to contribute to the community once I've got a bit of education behind me.

If you haven't read them already there is a Wiki/FAQ here on the Nexus with lots of valuable information for extractions and DMT in general.

I haven't done any Syrian Rue extractions but if you post your tip in the General Extractions Help you may get some feedback on it.

Best of luck with your research and future journeys. I hope you enjoy your stay :)

Thanks guys. Yes, I have looked through several extractions on the wiki and the interactions section.

I am interested in the interactions because my distance buddy SWIM, who I am concerned about, is on Effexor XR (Venlafaxine - extended-release (long-acting) capsules are also used to treat generalized anxiety disorder). Unfortunately, Venlafaxine is a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) and I am worried about it's interaction with harmala derivatives. SWIM and I have read plenty about not mixing MAOI's and SSRI / SNRI class drugs, but have only some random reports about mixing small amounts with Effexor and it being OK.

SWIM wants to know about how people on medication deal with this MAOI interaction or if the public is just hyper-sensitive about it. Infact, that is another post I would start - personal experiences with medications and MAOI where I would ask participants to give data on their prescription dose, MAOI dose, and mind alterant dose.

Funny thing with SWIM, he told me his first try with 20X Salvia was vivid, but the 3 puffs only lasted 3 minutes of strong effects. SWIM tried it again the other day with hardly anything and took 7-8 big puffs. My guess is the 120 mg of Effexor per day negates the Salvia Divinorum A.

Since I can't post yet, would someone be interested in starting such a post or direct me to such a post. I have already read all the disclaimers on the internet saying not to do it, but some people say they are OK. I would like to consolidate KNOWN information.

Oh, I gave the syrian rue project to an acquaintance who will finish it out and use my 'in development' advanced capillary action filter. I'll follow up with a post and photos soon.

It is dangerous to combine an SNRI with a MAOI. Seratonin syndrome can kick in very quickly, and has a whole host of very nasty symptoms. The excess seratonin created by the interaction has the possibility of being fatal.

It is not just a risk, too much seratonin and the syndrome will manifest itself. It is a very real possibility and is beyond public hyper-sensitivity.

Peace

Welcome to The Nexus!

A background in chemistry? Yay!

A couple times a year? Maybe look into salting techniques. Dmt furamate. Salts have a much Longer shelf life. There's even a salting extraction tek or two.

Welcome!!!:d :d :d

Thanks Macre and Wearepeople. Yes, I am concerned about the seritonine syndrome. Infact, my friend SWIM was sick last year and took a cough suppressant and did get mild symptoms (head ache, sweats, tired feeling). I want to know what other have witnessed.

Hey - guess what I found growing a few blocks down in someone's street side garden? Yep, 2 nice size Bundleflower plants. I'll take photos before and after I 'urban craft' them. Anyone experience use of the extract? I noticed it contains NMT (N-Methyltryptamine) and I assume it come out in the extraction also and assume it makes a variation in the experience. Am I right?

Also, SWIM thinks he found a few clumps of Phalaris arundinacea in a park last week but it was all dried up. He also found a few clumps several blocks away in someone's yard. He'd like to take a photo and post it to see if any one can give me a positive ID.

Lastly, Swim's capillary action siphon idea worked great. He had trouble with the test run since it would dry out after a few hours. I suggested using plastic wrap to wrap the rag so it would dry out and it didn't. He wants to finish the extract to see if the Harmala moved as well and then make a write up for this technique of filtering. It makes filtering high solids conconctions clean and with no hassle. No more using several filter papers and dealing with clogs. I will attach a few photo

Brief explanation of capillary action siphon filter (images in previous post).

Image 1 shows a plastic wrapped rolled up wet cloth hanging from the concoction of ground syrian rue and vinegar. It will flow down to the empty container in about 6 hours.

Image 2 shows the liquid moving through the filter at a drop every 3-4 seconds.

Image 3 shows the syrian rue mud on the left and one time filtered extract on the right. It sucked the liquid off so well, when I tilted the rue mud on its side, no liquid came out.

Image 4 shows a LED light behind it and spoon inside it. Looks pretty clear.

There are some technical things he did to make this work and also need to follow this through to the end to see how much harmala material can be produced. My fear is that, depending on the chemical size, some chemicals move though a filter faster than others ( a Gas Chromatograph relies on this fact to identify the chemicals). I am betting I should run straight water or vinegar through it to clean out any remaining harmalas.

I don't have a blacklight to check Harmaline or Harmala.

I do have other questions like:
What is the best material?
What is the best amount of material?
Does length of siphon matter?
Can one just pack a thin copper or pvc pipe with material and get the same effect or is it the looseness of the material in my test siphon?

Any thoughts? I want to be complete when / if I write up the technique.

thanks,
