So after experiencing an extremely unpleasant and dangerous aspect of B. Caapi/Harmalas, that I have not seen mentioned before on here, I feel I must warn others.
I had prepared ayahuasca, yellow B. Caapi vine and Mimosa Hostilis root bark as separate teas. Knowing that Maois need time to start working I decided to take the B. Caapi tea first and wait an hour. The dosage information for it was inconclusive so I took 50g.
I knew that the vine alone had psychoactive effects, and indeed soon my perception was being distorted in a psychedelic way.
But what I was not aware was a secondary effect the vine or it's constituents could have on you.
Slowly I started growing tired, physical effort became harder and harder until it felt like any single movement, or even having my eyes open, was so tiring and effortful, I would lose consciousness any moment. Combined with the purge, these were some of the worst hours I had ever experienced. It felt somewhat what I imagine dying is like.
It is only later that I concluded that what had happened was my blood pressure being extremely lowered by the Vine. Harmalas have vasorelaxant properties and this would explain why my trip sitter described me as extremely pale one time.
Three hours it took me, to finally be able to leave my bed without keeling over. Suffice to say any desire for the follow up shot of mimosa Hostilis had left me.
As you can see my dose was not that large, nor do I usually have any problems with blood pressure, and while it ended up fine for me, I can definitely see someone taking a larger dose or not having a trip sitter and ending up in a lot more trouble.
