OHT - hardcover version

So because I wanted to and because I won't be able to once the proof-read version is done, I decided to bind my own hard-cover version of the OHT alpha text.

This is in DinA5 (I reformatted a little to make it work with the pics). I'm also working on a DinA4 version.

The DinA5 is bound with a rigid, supported spine and the book is bound directly to the spine - not case-bound. The pages are sewn on to short guards so that they open flat which makes it easier to hold and read.

Here are some pics of the process and the almost finished result. I'm still not entirely done with it - I have to add the colored end-papers and some other finishing touches.

Beautiful, i can only imagine how that validates your work. How did you learn to manufacture a book ? And what a pitty you had to go all japan on us...:p

Yes, it's quite nice to hold in my hands! I learned binding only in the last few months auto-dicactically and to be honest this was the first one I made with print, and only the second one I made with this specific technique (tightback binding). They are still getting better every time I try but I still run into all kinds of new and unexpected probems :p Still I'm quite satisfied with this result.

Endpapers almost done. will post final pictures in a bit.

Amazing work, book binding is such a sacred art. May I ask, what exactly is this sacred manuscript?

Blessings
Do check the subforum or the link (What it is) in my signature to find out all about it.

And yes, book binding to me is amazingly sacred. It feels like I'm doing alchemy because each step is performed with so much precision and thought, it's like a magic spell weaving the different components into this structure to give an esthetically pleasing and well functional product that either contains (printed material) or gives space to (blank books) a million thoughts, dreams and other wonderful mental/spiritual motions.

Thank you so much for this manual, I have a book binder and some spare spines, this looks like a great find so will print off a copy to bind, still have yet to master the delicate art of actual book binding but it does fascinate me.

I also have some old alchemy books and other esoteric books and am certain they spent as much mental energy on the covers as they done the inside contents.

I just skimmed through this manual and it is a real treasure chest of information, thank you so much for bringing this to my attention, I feel that my life is performing alchemy everyday, as if I have a huge magnet stuck in my brain and everything is just arriving peacefully :)

If you are interested in book binding and understand spanish I can direct you to a site with some very good tutorials. Nothing comparable in english!

Concerning the manual, if you are not in a big hurry to print it, I do recommend waiting until we finish the next round of proof-reading, or alternatively you can help with that ;)

End pages will have to wait till tomorrow since I had to put them in the press to get them nice and flattened before putting them in. So more tomorrow.

And here the final result with the endpapers. They were cut from a DinA3++ paste paper I made myself. We put a thin latex covering over them to make them more resistant.

Where can I get one?

You can get the pdf in this sub-forum and then have it printed and bound however you like :). Traditional binding is lots of work so prices are steep. But machine binding now a days is quite affordable.

Who knows though, perhaps in the future there will be a limited edition of traditional style bindings available for this book. We'll wait for the final proof-read version for that though.

I cant speak spanish so would be no good to me, unless Chrome can translate enough for it to be readable.

I need to find a way to print this first, I would love to read it and help out where possible, this is an awesome project and brings alot of important information to people that need it, I think it is a responsible action to take and shows a high level of integrity within this journey.

I could pay you to send a copy to the UK if you wanted and if possible. If not I will have to ask around to see how to print it.

Really nice work on the covers!

Thanks

download the pdf and go to any decent copyshop - they should be able to print it for you. At least that's how it works on mainland Europe and that's how I got this one printed :) If you are lucky they can even bind it for you.

I'll be moving very soon so I don't really have the time to make any more copies. Until October that is. Then I suppose I will make a second edition / final version print and a few copies.
